Smoothing flesh side

Recommended Posts

I received 2 shoulders from W&C and the flesh side is very rough.  How do you smooth it out?  Or, should I have ask for it to split or something.

W&C will get your their leathers unfinished on the back, or you can request pasted so that it is smooth.  They will also split to whatever thickness you like, which usually leaves a fairly smooth finish, but pasted is smoother.

Lots of different treatments for smoothing the flesh side.  Typically involves a glass slicker to apply a wax or adhesive.  I use this water-based adhesive when I split bridle leather, in order to replace the moss-back (pasted) finish.  It creates a smooth, flexible surface that is sealed.

you can use gum tragacanth too- glass slicker or even a burnishing stick. I just keep adding product and rubbing until the surface is dry slick and shiny
