Ripper70 Report post Posted April 24, 2023 Hello All, Once again I'm trying to clarify mixed messages, this time regarding loading bobbins on the Cobra Class 26. According to Steve Van Plew, of Van Plew Co., the bobbin thread should run counter clockwise before placing it in the hook basket. According to Aaron Heizer at Maker's Leather Supply, the thread should run clockwise. I know it's a coin flip, but is there a correct way to do this? Would appreciate the opinions of the LW forum experts. Thanks in advance for any assistance. Ripper70

To answer your question the bobbin thread should come off the bobbin in a counter clockwise direction. I think your best source would be the manual from Leather Machine Co. and Al Bane who seems to know his stuff about the Cobra machines. It also appears he has a close relationship with them. A good video by Al Bane about the bobbin is kgg

Wizcrafts Report post Posted April 25, 2023 The only time you would insert the bobbin so it feeds clockwise is if there is an anti-backlash spring under the bobbin. These are usually shaped like a star. The tension is reduced on a clockwise feeding bobbin, in a top loading basket. I personally feed all my bobbins against the direction of rotation because the back pressure keeps the thread firmly under the tension spring.
