pepin1948 Posted November 15, 2007 Report Posted November 15, 2007 Here is the buckle I did in the class I taught the kids this week. I laced it today at home as I was busy showing them stitching there. It was very quick and basic, but I was disappointed to see how spotty the leather was after staining - just something that happens sometimes...anyhow, my question is: should I color the knot and if so, what? Moderator Art Posted November 15, 2007 Moderator Report Posted November 15, 2007 Well, it IS leather, if it was sheet metal you could have spray painted it and done a smooth and even finish, then it wouldn't look like leather. I love Peter Main's work but the color is way too even. Your background is excellent, you can see it is leather. And don't color the design, just my opinion. I am, as you may have noticed, a big proponent of character, it's what makes leather...well...leather. Art Here is the buckle I did in the class I taught the kids this week. cjbleather Posted November 16, 2007 Report Posted November 16, 2007 Holly, Still into Celtic knots. You do them great. As far as coloring the knot, IMHO I would do so. Primarily because the entire buclke is dark and the knot will not stand out. I would color it the color of your lacing if possible. Carl Quote
Dale Posted November 16, 2007 Report Posted November 16, 2007 I agree with Carl -- mostly. You don't need the exact color of the lace, but approach it. I would also prefer to see it shaded rather than a solid color. Don't add any more dark color, just use the light color to create a 3-D knot. Dale Quote
