Thank all of you for your help. After my initial post I got the opportunity to see the Ghormley Hugger holster pattern from his 1911 pattern pack. It is sewn to the backer then the holster is folded and sewn closed. This may or may not be the way the one in the photo was done but I think it will work for me.

Sewing it would be better than T nuts, I reckon.

Machines wot I have - Singer 51W59; Singer 331K4; Seiko STH-8BLD; Pfaff 335; CB4500.

Chinese shoe patcher; Singer 201K (old hand crank)
