Hi y’all

I am an Arizonan now living in Namibia Africa and I just pulled the trigger in buying my first industrial sewing machine to up my leatherwork game. I imported a new Oryx 341 (same machines as the cowboys in the US, just re named the oryx as its more relevant for Africa) from South Africa and have it all dialed in with a recently added speed speed reducer. It was quite expensive and a pain in the ass to get it sent over but well worth it. Its a solid machine!

Namibia is one of the most remote countries in the world in terms of population and logistics. Its no easy feat getting leather supplies here with (luckily) only one overpriced leather supply shop and absolutely no online shopping options whatsoever with lack of online payment systems and reliable shipping. As well as I literally live in the middle of nowhere in the desert with the nearest grocery store being 4 hours away.

My brother is visiting from the US soon so naturally I plan on loading him up like a pack mule with stuff from the US lol. I would like to get a drop down edge guide and a few different presser feet styles for the machine. I am trying to spend as least amount of money as possible so was hoping to find some deals on parts from other bigger brands or generic label that will fit on the machine. Anyone have any info on what might be compatible?

Also any recommendations for time saving leather tools/gear you can’t live without? Bonus points if they are small and not extremely heavy!

Any of the accessories that will fit a Juki LS-341 or LS-1341 should fit for parts I would reference the Juki LS-341 numbers. The manuals for the Juki LS-341 would be the one's I would use and have attached them as pdf's.

I did notice you have the hand-wheel installed backwards, may or may not make any difference.

I do like the back drop of hides in the background.

Thank you! That’s exactly the info I was looking for. Will definitely check it out.

Interesting about the hand wheel as thats the way it came and everything looked like it was still factory packaged. But now that you point it out it definitely looks like it would make more sense facing the other way.

The comment about the hand wheel made me think about my machines.  I have a Pfaff 145, Pfaff 545 and an old Singer 212 (I think).  Both Pfaff's have the belt on the outside, the singer has it on the inside.  The Pfaff's feel just right, the Singer does as well but the Singer adjusts the stich length by turning the hand wheel which would explain why it's on the outside.  I think the Oryx orientation is correct, check it by sewing a little, if it feels right it probably is.

All the Juki's and the clones like Cowboy CB-341, Cobra Class 26, Techsew 2750, KOBE LS-1341 to name a few in the 341 / 1341 class cylinder arm machines all have the hand-wheel orientated so the belt is closest to end of the machine and main bearing. When you move up to the Juki TSC-441 and the clones like Cowboy 4500, Cobra Class 4, Techsew 5100, KOBE TSC-441 to name a few they have their hand-wheels orientated with the belt on the outside.

A lot of the Singers like the 111W 155 had their hand-wheel orientated with the belt on the outside while the Singer 212 the hand-wheel is orientated with the belt on the inside. Pfaff also had a mix the 1245 had the belt on the inside while the 145 and 545 had it on the outside.

I guess it comes down to how each class of machine is designed and how the "all alluring" belt cover is supposed to be installed.

I am surprised as I don't know of any manufacturer / dealer that ships the machine with the hand-wheel installed on the machine over on this side of the pond.

You should have your brother bring leather needles along in the size for the thread you are planning on using. Needles for the Juki and clone 341 / 1341 use 135 X 16 X SIZE for leather and 135 X 17 X SIZE for fabric. Here is a good link for needle size vs thread size. https://www.tolindsewmach.com/thread-chart.html

I was looking for a way to earn money on the Internet for a long time and nothing came of it due to the lack of payment on the Internet. But a friend told me about Google Pay Casinos this is a great resource where promo codes are given. I won quite a significant amount of money there and received it in a convenient way. If you have trouble paying or finding a casino, this is for you.

This is an interesting story, I'm glad you found a solution. I wish you a good time with your brother.
