Jianis Report post Posted December 4, 2023 Hello everyone. There is a Pfaff 142-6A S double needle machine for sale. I am considering buying it as I am making a leather interior for my classic car. Does any of you have information and advice if the machine is good enough for leather? and points that I should be aware of. Thank you in Advance. Pretty sure the 146's are Double Needle, Needle-Feed machines . Needle Feed lays down some nice stitching .The 146 should do good on smooth upholstery leather or fabric. Do you own other sewing machines ? . Auto upholstery gets into piping and a seams where a owning a single needle is needed . I can see where a double-needle would do good for some french seams. Auto Upholstery not my discipline, & I not into the Pfaff double needles, I into the double needle needle-feed Singers 112 /212, and Juki LH3528's. They all share same needle gauge sets, and are always pretty easy find and easy on the wallet. So.. If you buy it. When you getting into Double Needle machines, always take in consideration that Gauge Sets always play into the equation. So look into the the Needle span you needing for seams, plus feed-dog, needle plate. Press-foot . . Edited December 5, 2023 by nylonRigging
Constabulary Report post Posted December 5, 2023 (edited) I agree with nylonRigging. Pfaffs are excellent machines - no doubt. But finding gauge sets for different needle distances is a pain. When you are looking for a double needle machine I would look for machines based on Singer, like JUKI, SEIKO, Mitsubishi, Brother (they often share the same gauge sets) or the Singer 212 or 112 it self. On the other hand if the machine has the needle distance you need and you are sure you will need no other then go for it. My double needle choice was the Singer 212G141. To give you an idea of which machines share the same "Singer Type" needle feed gauge set check the description here: https://www.ebay.com/itm/153439679127 Edited December 5, 2023 by Constabulary

I have got a Singer 111 W 152, a Pfaff 145 H2 with extra piping and zipper feet, a really heavy-duty Adler 4-10, and a small collection of lighter machines. The machine in question is coming with a rather small 5mm dinstance between the needles so I guess I have to search out if it is possible to change to a wider system

It seams to be a very big price difference !! The machine in question has only 5 mm distance between the needles. I guess I have to wait until a more suitable machine comes for sale
