Shazbaz Report post Posted March 19 (edited) My hubby's wallet has seen much better days but he only likes the really soft thin tri-fold wallets. I'm very new to leather making and I have no idea what sort of leather to use that would give me the same feel as something like his old wallet. The wallet is lined with fabric which makes it very slim but the leather is so thin and I can't seem to find examples of wallets made this way on here, can anyone help me with what sort of leather I need to make a similar copy of this wallet please and if you know of a template for a wallet just like this one that would be great Thank you:-) Edited March 19 by Northmount fixed title
RidgebackCustoms Report post Posted March 19 https://www.springfieldleather.com/Maverick-Trifold-Wallet-Interiors These are ready made wallet interiors, which may be a good starting point if you're new to leatherwork. For outer leather try to stick to vegetable tanned leathers or latigo/combination tanned leathers. Rocky mountain leather supply has a good assortment of leathers, you can sort by firmness, and they will split down the thickness to whatever you need. I'm partial to the Italian veg tans, but lots of great options. https://www.rmleathersupply.com/
Shazbaz Report post Posted March 22 They look great but unfortunately, I'm in western Australia and it looks like shipping would be too expensive but I'm grateful for your input because it's given me an idea of what to look for from an Australian supplier. SUP Report post Posted March 22 @Shazbaz In Australia you get great Kangaroo leather, isn't it?. That should be strong and thin enough for wallets. It's beautiful too. There are plenty of free leather wallets patterns on the net. That is one of the first things people make when starting leatherwork apparently. Have you checked the leather stores online and their free sections? You might find exactly what you want in one of them. I know Springfield leather had some free wallet patterns. Otherwise, such patterns go for a song on Etsy. Some people on Etsy also design based on your specifications - that is another option.
