Members JeffH837 Posted September 3, 2024 Members Report Posted September 3, 2024 Recently been experimenting with darkening my leather for a wallet build without dying it as I much prefer the bare natural look just tanned a little darker than it comes from the tannery. So I oil it with neatsfoot oil then lay it in direct sunlight for a day and bring it inside clean any dust off and then apply smiths leather balm to even out any uneven color from neatsfoot oil application and set it back out in the sun for another day or two until I get desired color of leather. Today I put a final coat of smiths on and it now looks almost like bridal leather and has a waxy sheen to it which I’m really loving so far. Can’t wait to see how it comes out when I build a wallet with this for the main body and either some h.o that I burnished the grain to a glazed finish or some nice tan dyed 2/3 oz veg tan tooling calf skin.
