This is the closest that I can find. It is gator embossed cowhide. It could be embossed or it could be gator, a part of it.

someone commented this and I tend to agree:

I just see that flex point (armpit?) on the middle right of the piece, which means ‘something with arms and legs’

It’s not ostrich, elephant, hippo, pretty sure it’s a reptile or amphibian -

edit - I would lean towards real, not embossed bovine, based on the variation of shapes - compare to https://leatherwks.com/products/turtle

Sea turtle or print depending on how old it is. Think the ban went in during the late 70s??

Sea turtle?  Interesting!  Seems plausible.

Hi all,
I'm the OP from the reddit thread.  I was searching what I'm supposed to do with this (presumed) sea turtle leather and this post came up, so I figured I'd create and account and see if anyone knew more.  I looked through the CITES documentation and FWS guidance but there isn't anything other than "cant sell sea turtle internationally or in interstate commerce."

As I run a business, I'd like to make some money on this item if possible, but if it is going to get me sent to federal prison Ill just throw it out.

If I were you I'd try to sell as a lot and include it as a freebie (and maybe not even mention in the description).

I've really only worked with cow before, this stuff is novel but unfamiliar. Without the sea turtle factored, what would be a decent price for a local sale?

No idea! I’ve not worked with those besides ostrich.
