Members Gridix Posted Monday at 04:08 PM Members Report Posted Monday at 04:08 PM Good Morning All, I have been making some wallets for awhile now learning techniques. I have gotten a few request for a traditional bifold. I have used the Buttero 3oz leather, but I feel like its a little bulky. I see that I can order it from Rocky Mountain in different options, do you guys recommend a certain weight for something like this ? Thank you! Quote
PastorBob Posted Tuesday at 11:52 AM Report Posted Tuesday at 11:52 AM Your wallet pictured looks great!! I think it really boils down to preference. What have you used for tri-folds? It would seem that would be a thicker wallet yet. You could always see if they could send you some sample pieces to experiment with to determine which thickness you feel is best. When someone asks me for a wallet, I normally show them the leather I will be using. In most cases, they take my advice on the leather, so really it's my choice. I haven't had any complaints. I normally use 3-4oz. veg tan HO leather. Good luck. Quote In God's Grace, Pastor Bob "While we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." - Romans 5:8 www.PastorBobLeather.com YouTube Channel
Members LiftPig Posted Tuesday at 05:29 PM Members Report Posted Tuesday at 05:29 PM You could skive the edges of the pockets down to feather and that will eliminate some of that bulk. It looks like they're already 1-2oz so there's not much to take off. Keep your shell 4-6 ounce with 1-2 ounce liners and pockets and that's about as good as you can do. Keep in mind that wallets start of bulky and cumbersome then mold themselves to the....user. Quote
Members Gridix Posted Tuesday at 08:42 PM Author Members Report Posted Tuesday at 08:42 PM Thank you guys so much. I only just starting to sell wallets so I haven't had any "out in the wild" long enough to see how they break in. I have been purchasing 3-3.5 oz leather and using that and skiving the t pockets. I just wanted to make sure i shouldnt be using a 2 oz to start with. Quote
