Members susiesmooth Posted June 19 Members Report Posted June 19 Im wondering if my problem is a safety clutch as since having a minor sewing problem(though there were about 4 rotations worth of thread caught up under the bobbin holder) the hook & needle timing appears to be waaaay out now, about half a rotation away from meeting . I've never heard of a safety clutch. Does anyone know whether an old 291 would have one? Quote

Much better to start a new thread and specific to your machine. Quote
Contributing Member friquant Posted 5 hours ago Contributing Member Report Posted 5 hours ago Did you get your machine running? I'm not familiar with the 291. If a machine has a safety clutch, it will likely be built into the timing cog underneath the machine. Follow the timing belt from the main shaft down to the horizontal timing shaft. The cog on the horizontal timing shaft---if it has levers and pawls on the right side of it, your machine has a safety clutch. Here's a video by Uwe that shows safety clutches: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N-MClgDKnq4 Quote friquant. Like a frequent, piquant flyer.
