rdb Report post Posted December 23, 2007 I'm seeing double... Commission from the music store.... Two twins getting Martin D28s for Christmas, so...Papa wanted new straps for them too. They saw what I had in the store, and liked the simple strap with Basketweave, and "tobacco sunburst" colors. The color matches their D28s nicely. Nothing super special here, but if you want to explore basketweaving, try making two straps in one day....lol. 49" from peghole to peghole. 2" wide. Tan Antique first. I took walnut oil dye, rubbed it dry on newspaper, then burnished the edges for the two tone. 35 year old Tandy Basketweave stamp, and "camo edge. TanKote top. Edge dyed with walnut, and neatsfoot, beeswax burnished in. Neatsfooted the back (with a tan dye in the oil. Like I said nothing special, but kept me busy today, and I'll leave the twin jokes to youse guys....

TomSwede Report post Posted December 24, 2007 NOTHING can convince me that a long FAT strap with lots of basket weave is simple and that sunburst really make them pop out in my eye. Good work there and as always a pleasure to see yor straps. Just gotta get myself together and start practising with that weave stamp that sits in my toolbox. I'ts eyeballing me everytime I have my hands in there;-) I really enjoy them "simple and beefy" straps because the tooling art stands out more, on the other hand the other straps with a lot of sewing and hardware attachment for lenght adjustment and such appeals to the more technical side in me, to get that stuff together is a bit of enginering and thought process. Curious to know what your preference is? Seems like you have quite some experience in guitar straps and probably are aware of terms such as "less is more". rdb Report post Posted December 24, 2007 thanx tom. Yeh, i like the more complicated ones also, but it's difficult to come up with something new, without a sewing machine, or be willing to lace or sew for hours on end. Not a lot of customers out there for 300 dollar straps. There's a few people here doing the straps, and they have shown themselves to be far more talented than I. I made quite a few in the old days, but in the past few months, I've made maybe fifteen, and sold six. All of them are at my flickr site: http://www.flickr.com/photos/meagert/sets/72157602911766738/ My goal is a strap that adjusts, without any hardware, that actually works for the user, and is different than the others out there on the innertubes. I may never get there, so in the meantime, I just make what they ask for.
