I love refurbishing and using antique tools. I don't have but a handful of for leathercraft. A few punches that I never use, and a wing divider that's always in my hand. It's smaller, but comfortable to use. The patina is prefect too. I have a cherry wood chest full of wood working planes from ca. 1850's, 32 planes, afew saws, some wooden measuring sticks, and a handle of other tools for timber framing, cabinetry, and finish work. All these, and the leather tools were from my great great great grandpa and his partner. Yes that's 3 greats in there lol.

I love that you still have all those antique tools from your 3rd great grandfather! My father is currently in possession of a chest of cabinetmaker’s tools from my 2nd great grandfather, and I’m hoping my siblings don’t want them because I sure do 😁. While it’s not as extensive a collection as yours, there are some great tools in that box, many still usable with a little TLC and sharpening.

I don’t have many vintage or antique tools yet, but when I can afford them I absolutely make a point to pick them up. I’ve got the two I showed in this post, along with an antique tack/brad/nail puller, and a strapped-head tack hammer. The rest of my tools are largely vintage, from the 60s through the 80s, mostly the old Craftool stuff from Tandy. I actually like a lot of the vintage Tandy stuff, especially the Al Stohlman Brand tools (like the strap end punches), though I’m finding I prefer these antique tools the more of them I get and use.

I’m also finding I am enjoying refurbishing the old tools. I didn’t think I’d enjoy that part, but honestly it’s kinda fun!

For most of us . . .  a picture or 3 would have been enjoyable . . .  as they are actually used . . .  how they are used . . . what the product looks like when it is being produced.

Kind of like a gun . . .  gun pics are good . . .  like to see what can be done with it down range.

May God bless,

Dwight

If you can breathe, . . . thank God.

If you can read, . . . thank a teacher.

If you are reading this in English, . . . thank a veteran.

Once you use it show us a pic of the result! I for one, as someone just getting into this craft, would love to see what that tool can do!
