Lining bags

Hi all

I've made quite a few bags now and the one big problem I have is with lining them. I have not yet managed a good looking lining. How do you do it? Is there any 'best' way or 'easiest' way? What do you use to line your bags?

I usually avoid lining at all because of this but I know my bags could get a lot better and look a lot more finished with a lining so any help will be gratefully appreciated!

What sort of a lining do you have in mind, Raven? I have lined a few with thin leather and am currently experimenting with making cloth liners with pockets in them that are stitched to the 'mouth' of the bag and 'hang' loosely inside.

I've tried both types of lining, haven't had much success with either of them! I do have some nice thin leather though so how about starting with that?

I am currently making a "market" type bag and I bought from the scrap bin at Tandy some light (thin) chrome tan that look like wood grain (sort of, chestnut color) for my lining. I hope it works. Good luck and report bag any success you have on projects after receiving advice here.

So far Ive used some of the pig skin as lining. The thin stuff. Also some really thin upholstery style leather. Glue it in stitch the edges or lace and your good to go atleast so far from my experiences.

Ive so far done the super 77 from 3M and Ive also used this other stuff I got also a spray, it was from a fabric craft store and Igot it to use on foam. Seems to work pretty good on leather also.

Anyways I usually spray it on both items and lay the liner on the leather, give it a good rub down to make sure theres good contact and everything is smooth with no bumbs or anything, then lay it inbetween foam layers then put some weight on it. This compress's everything while it drys for a bit. Then Ill take it out and let it finish drying.

Trim the excess and assemble the item. Atleast this is how I made my last purse and a couple of coin purses.
