Guest seras Posted February 27, 2008 Report Posted February 27, 2008 Hi there leatherworking world, I need a custom backpiece made, and am open to design suggestions as long as it takes care of my needs. Here are the functions it needs to fulfill: I have a series of microdermal anchors click here to see what I mean by that in my back and they are often injured, bruised and snagged during aikido practice. I need a protective cover for them, padded underneath with something not fibrous enough to pull on them and that can be removed so I can wash it. It needs to be pretty snug so it doesn't shift too much, and so I will be allowed to wear it under my gi. It also can't have anything solid in front (like a sheet-like breastpiece), because that will hinder mobility and also because the gi won't cover it. I think it would be OK to have it held on by a few thick straps across the chest, but needs to click or snap with plastic because metals will not be permitted in tournaments. Really tough canvas would probably be great too, but there is no canvasworker.net shoot me an email if you're interested in this project or can reccoment a colleague who might be. niketaroman@hotmail.com
TracyMoss Posted February 28, 2008 Report Posted February 28, 2008 could not use your link, but i inmagine it looks painful. Good Luck, sound like a liability to me. Maybe you need a shell like those Ninja Turtles.
Contributing Member barra Posted February 28, 2008 Contributing Member Report Posted February 28, 2008 yes the link does not work but I get the idea. I am in military aviation and specialise in safety and survival equipment. this also entails manufacturing components out of numerous materials including canvas. Now thinking just outside the square, picture an item similar to the one in the link but minus all the pockets and other extranious hung on crap. It would just be a bare shell, would not restrict movement and be washable. http://www.opsgear.com/MOLLE-Heavy-Assault...st-p/cn-mvp.htm Barra

I never thought of that kind of field gear, but it probably wouldn't be too hard to modify it. Does all military gear include a chest covering? I suppose it would be pretty useless if it didn't ...
Contributing Member barra Posted February 29, 2008 Contributing Member Report Posted February 29, 2008 You should be able to get just the bare vest with no pockets or attachments. People then add whatever pockets depending on what job they have and need to carry. Leave it with me and I will do some research and try and find more links. Barra
