What is a fair price to pay for one in good working condition?

1/2" is too much for this machine. 5/16" is doable. What exactly are you trying to do with it?

I make a lot of knife sheaths that often require sewing 3 layers of 8-10oz. together, sometimes 4 or 5 layers.

The seller of this machine, who claims he is now using it, told me there would be no problem with the projects I do.

The foot feeds the leather through, so the serrations on the foot would mark the grain side of the leather.

Some people file off the serrations to minimize the footprint. But if you can't fit the leather under the foot, it's all for naught. An unmodified 29 class machine is not designed for 30+ oz of leather. I think the guy was pulling your leg.

Hi Rayban

I have a 29k71 almost identical machine, I can assure you it will not sew 1/2 leather I have tried! ressult is continuous missed stiches , broken thread, plus broken needles. Ihave managed to sew 3/8 but it struggles, I have purchased a Singer 45k type machine it sews 1/2 inch of leather with ease, in Australia you can purchase one for less than half the price of it's new equivelent, although over hear they are becoming harder to find it good condition.

IT IS A COPY OF AN ADLER. I HAVE HAD NO PROBLEMS WITH MINE AS LONG AS I HAVE HAD IT.
