Members tonyc1 Posted February 12, 2009 Members Report Posted February 12, 2009 I see that Mother Nature is causing some grief in the US with a tornado and causing headaches like she has done here in Australia of late. I was just wondering if all the Katrina victims have finally been able to return to their houses yet? I can see our fire victims will be homeless for quite a while and it wont be much fun living in tents for any extended length of time. These incidents make you appreciate what you have and the lifestyle you lead. Tony. Quote

There have been a slow influx of folks moving back to N.O., but the problem is that the cost of living has skyrocketed since the hurricane, that most can't afford to return. I'm originally from the state of Louisiana, and know serveral families that have returned, and several that vow to never set foot back. Quote Marlon

Government charges, council charges? Tony. Quote

What happened is that all the outflux of people went to neighboring citites and towns and supply and demand dictated a localized inflation. Most people couldn't afford to maintain multiple residences and had to forgo their properties in New Orleans. Those who bought these inflated the prices, along with the insurance rates skyrocketing, the real estate has gone through the roof. Plus, not every area has been refurbished, so that leave the refurbed area 'desireable' and inflates the prices even more. Quote Marlon
