Romals

Recommended Posts

Here they are finished. 8 plait reins, 12 plait romal. I'm pretty proud of myself for being able to do all the knots with one string! saves alot of time a string.

Holy moly those are kick a**!! I ALMOST want to go out and try a little rawhide myself. There is something special about the rawhide look you don't get with kangaroo.

Thank you. Yeah, braiding with roo is deffinately a little different. The rawhide I got from Bill Confer is great stuff, and that's half the battle right there.

Well I've been considering buying a spool of string from Tandy next time I need something, ever used that?

Your rawhide braiding looks great. I would suggest that you take a little more time on the popper. You should clean up the edges. They are rough work on burnishing them. It is a shame to take away from all the work you did on braiding.

Entiendo, don't use the spools of Tandy rawhide. It's crappy bleached rawhide and you'll get discouraged because almost no one can make that look good. Bill Confer sells precut strings. His phone # is on one of the other threads, I don't know it off teh top of my head. Or you can get some pretty good precuts from ubrait-it. Cybele usually has good strings.

Ash, thanks for the tip. I'll try and clean that up before I send it away.

Those are cool. Someone might have a better way, but if you take some fine sandpaper to the edges of the popper then put a little beeswax on them and rub the hell out of them it will clean up those fuzzies. I use a deer horn. I guess anything hard and smooth will work though.

Just love that romel - rawhide braiding has always fascinated me and something I like doing now and again but should do it more often as it is something I'm not that good at.

I agree about the tandy rawhide lace - I just tried to skive some from a reel and it just kept breaking - no good!!!

Nice work again rawhider!!!

I would agree with the others about slicking the edges on that poper. Differant types of waxs could work but i like to wet a peice of canvas with some saddle soap in it and use that to rub the edges. You might even put a cote of oil on her and top it off with some TanKote. It would realy add to the apeal of the romals and accent your excilent braiding work.

Again nice work.. looking forward to the next pair..
