I would love to know how to start and finish it properly and how far to space the holes and during what order in assembly do you do it. any leads would help greatly. thank you
Arturo Report post Posted March 4, 2009 Hammer: I know a fair amount about motorcycle seats but can't visualize what you are referring to. Can you find a picture on the net somewhere and post it here? Aturo

Can you find a picture on the net somewhere and post it here? Aturo Thank you for getting back to me!! I have been trying to upload a picture but I am a little behind the times and still have dial up so it is not working. I do know if you go to www.dbcustomleather.com and click on pictures there is a seat in the first row on the right corner that has what I am looking for. I was trying to find it on here but I am not great with computers. The one on the website you can still see a little bit of the seat pan and I do not want that look but it has the correct stitch. I can't tell by that one but i will be using eyelits for my holes and I know that will make a difference with when and how the order of assembly goes. I really appreciate your time. My friend has been waiting for me to do his seat since January 2nd and I am afraid to start until I know how to assemble and stitch it. Thanks again

Arturo Report post Posted March 5, 2009 (edited) Hammer: If I am looking at the right photo on the site you referenced you would use 3/16" lace and punch 3/16" holes on about 5/8" centers. I'm just guessing here so do a little experimentation with the hole spacing. Anyway, to create the "X" effect just pass your lace through the top and out the bottom until you reach the end of the first pass. When you reach the end just continue doing the same thing in the other direction and that will "X" the lace. I hope this makes sense, I've been on my bike all day with no ear plugs and my ears are ringing so loud I can't hear myself type! Another good resource is the book, Encyclopedia of Rawhide and Leather Braiding. There are several edge braiding tecniques in the book that would cover the pan edge and still give the over all "X" efffect. Also, check this site out; http://www.btinternet.com/~kingsmerecrafts/page96.html , there are some good round edge lacing techniques described and depicted. You will have to dig around the site a bit to find what you are looking for but it is there. Arturo Edited March 5, 2009 by Arturo

I am wondering how to finish it so it stays on strong and doesn't come undone over time. This one might be a dumb question but you would do the stitch and finish it before any assembly to the seat? What kind of bike do you have? I just got my liscence and I am trying to get my husband to build my bike. thanks again for all your time

David Report post Posted March 5, 2009 (edited) 41, You will be wet molding this seat so the assembly of the top to the sides is done before adding the entire thing to the seat pan with padding. Hope that helps. There is a tutorial here under motorcycle heading....check that out too it is the one by Roger Dave Theobald Edited March 5, 2009 by David
