Hilly Report post Posted March 6, 2009 Are there any good books that teach the basics of braiding rawhide? I want one that is farly easy to understand for a beginner Can't help you out with the rawhide part, but if you're simply looking to learn the very basics of braiding, then this might help you out. Pretty easy to follow instructions, and I think braiding roo and rawhide would be similar? Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.
troy Report post Posted March 6, 2009 I guess the methods of braiding are very similar for each material, its more the way you treat/prepare each of the different materials that matter, meaning rawhide/roo and cowhide. I guess the best rawhide starter book I have used is bruce grants rawhide braiding, then went on to use ron edwards books.
kseidel Report post Posted March 9, 2009 It is easier to start learning with leather rather than rawhide. Gail Hought's books are very good and clear and easy to follow. Here is the linkhttp://www.hought.com/ Keith
rcsaddles Report post Posted March 11, 2009 I don't know if there are any books that really talk about how to braid rawhide. What I mean by that is how to control the moisture content. Braiding is not hard but knowing when the rawhide is just right to braid is the tricky part. That seems to come with experience.
