barra Report post Posted March 13, 2009 There is a slim chance that I may be able to make it to Sheridan this year. I am not having any luck finding out about this show. Does anyone have a heads up on what is planned for this year. P.S. There is nothing on the LCSJ site as of yet but if I am able to make it, I have to organise travel soon. bruce johnson Report post Posted March 13, 2009 Barra, There hasn't been anything released yet. If it is like last year, he really didn't start to finalize much class wise until after the Wickenburg show, which is going on right now. If you haven't been, it is a good show with a lot of vendors. Worthwhile to spend the better part of a day at the Don King Museum. Nice to visit Barry King's shop and see how tools are made. Tom Balding has a bit and spur shop around the corner, and it is interesting too. A couple of social deals - Kings on Thurs night and Sheridan Leather Outfitters on Fri night. The unorganized socials are at the Mint (across from Kings downtown) and the Holiday Inn.
ClayB Report post Posted March 30, 2009 I still haven't gotten anything official from the Journal yet, but I am starting to hear of some of the things that are going on at the Sheridan show. Paul and Rosa Zalesak of Leather Wranglers are sponsering a swivel knife contest with some great prizes again. Hopefully lots of people will participate in this contest. For more information on this, check out the calendar here on LW or go here Jan Schoonover will be teaching a couple classes in Sheridan again this year. The first class will be Hairing and Horn Techniques and will be held on May 12. The second class will be on May 13 and 14 and the subject will be an 11 x 14 picture of a Polar Bear from start to finsih. I've taken several classes from Jan. He is a good teacher and a good friend. If you are interested in learning about "extreme embossed leather carving" Jan's the guy to teach you. I hope any of the rest of you that know of events that are planned for the Sheridan show will add them here so people will know what's going on and can start planning. yaklady Report post Posted March 31, 2009 Like Clay and Bruce, I highly recommend the show. I wouldn't miss it for anything, even if I don't hear anything at all about it before I go. Coming as far as your would be, you might want to add Miles City, Montana to the list. Jim Linnell is doing a workshop there the weekend before the show, and there's plenty of sight seeing to be done in the area. Besides, we would all love to meet you, so come on out! HARVEY Report post Posted March 31, 2009 Barra, If you're coming from South Australia, do you know anything about the American West? Indian Wars? If so, Custer's Last Stand/Battle of the Little Big Horn is about 70 miles north of Sheridan. This site is also located on the Crow Inidan Reservation, a pretty traditional tribe where many members still speak their tribal language. Just 45 minutes south is the site of the Fetterman Battle. The area, Barra, is crawling with Indian history. There is LOTS to see and do. Harvey

ClayB Report post Posted April 17, 2009 I just checked the Leather Crafters and Saddlers Journal website and they have a form to sign up and pay for classes in Sheridan. They dont have any info on the actual classes such as who is teaching them, dates, times etc. but you can pay for them. Hopefully they'll have more info soon. ClayB Report post Posted April 19, 2009 I received my Sheridan show booklet in the mail yesterday so hopefully any one else that has been waiting for it has either gotten it or will be getting it really soon. They have the entire booklet on thier website now too including the class schedule, descriptions, teachers bios, evening events etc. Some of the regular classes have different teachers this year. And they aren't having a banquet on Saturday evening, just a reception and the presentation of the Stohlman award winners and the announcement of the winners of the World Leather Debut.
