dumb questions time

Recommended Posts

OK - first I gut a bug in my bonnet to make some game boards....(9 man morris, alaquerqe, etc) for the Arts and Science challange (50 things in 5 years)

I was thinking of leather "coins" for tokens....

before I search for a million hours - do they even make a hole punch that is about an inch in diamater - the only ones I see in a quick search go up to 3/4 of an inch and I think that will be too small.

I also thought about making "poker chips" for score keeping. (or "fariy coins")

I can practice stamping and dyeing at the same time and toss the rotten looking ones. >grin<

thanks

Suze, Osborne makes arch punches that big, and bigger. Most of the bigger suppliers have them. They are around $40, I think. If necessary, You can probably get one made to the exact size you want for just a little more.

Ouch on the price (well for what I want anyway)

fpr a person who is doing it for a living - I suspect that is a very reasonable price

Maybe Johanna has one in the shop.......I don't know I haven't been scrounging down there yet.

thank you - It might be something that I "could" make money with an be an investment. (glass blobs are looking better then ever - and I HAVE 50 pounds of them)

OPPS -- missed your post cuz

and it is just a 'new thing to learn" and you KNOW how I am about handcrafts

I paid $16 for a gasket punch set that runs from 1/4" through 1 1/2" from Harbor Freight. It was 10 years ago, but I doubt they have gone up very much. It will leave a dimple in the center, but you can find a way around that.

that's good to know - if it isn't a big dimple it could also be a "center mark" for a stamp?

would work but I don't have those skills or tools to do it with

besides Johanna said she had the punch I need so I guess I should have asked her FIRST >sheepish grin<

If you've got A LOT of them to make, it might be worthwhile to see if someone with a clicker could make them and ship them to you. It be a good way to use up the scraps.

not a huge amount - just for myself and a couple of gameboards... around 50 all told. 20 for a 9 man morris board (need a spare token) and maybe a checker board....

and if I am going to use them for part of my "50 challange" I need to do them myself

besides if I make something to SELL (gameboard wise) it gets those nice glass blops from the flower department -- I have to get rid of them somehow.
