Rawhide Report post Posted March 15, 2009 (edited) Hello, ...I asked a friend here in Texas to do some Sheridan style boots tops. I gave him the borders in which to work...see what he designed and carved in the attached photo. This is the finest I have seen in this style of work...the flow, execution and tooling is perfection...his detail is outstanding. Travis Stillson is a master. Suze Report post Posted March 15, 2009 wow - I would be sooo afraid to touch these in fear I would muck them up big time. (sort of like the mega bucks material for a costume-- you get one shot and one shot only)
hidepounder Report post Posted March 15, 2009 This is only the second or third time I have seen Tavis' work. I remember how amazed I was the first time I saw his tooling! He's one of the best floral toolers I have EVER seen. He's a master at incorporating old traditional design elements into new style Sheridan patterns...some of this reminds me of F.O. Baird. This is the kind of work I print out and keep in a folder to study for inspiration. When I see work like this, I realize I have so much more to learn. Thanks for posting this Marlon. gtwister09 Report post Posted March 15, 2009 Ditto to what Bob said about using Travis's work for inspiration. His boot pulls look a lot like some of his bridle work. If you need some more, here's his web site. Travis Stillson Website I generally check his web site every so often to see some new work. gtwister09 Report post Posted March 15, 2009 I think that he also did one of the 2007 LCSJ covers. I believe that it was either the July/August or September/October one. I will have to look and see. Regards, Ben
