Singer 201??

Recommended Posts

I have an opportunity to pick up a Singer 201. Can I use this to sew 8/9 oz leather together? How about 6/7 oz? I did look at some info here and on the net and it looks like it could do this just fine but I am sure some here have real life experience with this machine.

TIA.

I do not know much about household machines. My advise would be to get an industrial walking foot machine.

I have (had) one that the wife confiscated for quilting duties. It is an exceptionally strong machine and would be ok to sew 4oz pieces together. However, those little motors and old carbon foot controls just aren't up to much more than occasional use. Nice little straight line machine that came box stock with almost any attachment you would want, this was the perfect homestead/home machine of it's day. Most home machines are too fast for leather and at slow speed have little or no torque.
