ruthless Report post Posted March 24, 2009 I'm looking for some heavy duty double cap brass rivets [not gilt] with a 10mm post. Preferably from an Australian supplier. I've tried Birdsalls and Leffler already.

esantoro Report post Posted March 24, 2009 The solid brass Jiffy rivets from Ohio Travel Bag are made in Belgium. What about solid brass Chicago screws? ed
ruthless Report post Posted March 25, 2009 Are Chicago screws as strong as rivets? I was told they're not. I'm making heavy duty dog collars, so I want to use the strongest materials.
tonyc1 Report post Posted March 25, 2009 I'm sure the screws would be a better bet than 2 piece rivets,Ruth. Tony.
Daggrim Report post Posted March 25, 2009 Screw posts (Chicago screws) would be much tougher than the rapid rivets, but more time consuming to install, and more expensive. Dag
esantoro Report post Posted March 25, 2009 I would say that the Chicago screws are stronger than rapid, jiffy, and tubular rivets. Put red locktite on the threads (I've used only the blue thus far) and I don't see how they would ever come apart. ed The Chicago screws from WEaver are about the same price as the Jiffy rivets from anywhere, roughly $15 for 100. Less if you by about 5000. ed

ruthless Report post Posted April 6, 2009 I never did manage to find any H/D double capped solid brass rivets. I'll settle for non heavy duty ones. Does such a thing exist?
tonyc1 Report post Posted April 6, 2009 I've never found any solid brass rapid rivets, only brass plated ones. Tony. And if you find some Ruth, please let me know. Tony.
ruthless Report post Posted April 7, 2009 Sure thing I have solid brass heavy duty rivets, but they're single capped. I want double. They must exist. Stop holding out on me people!
esantoro Report post Posted April 7, 2009 Ohio Travel Bags in the U.S. has these solid brass double-capped rivets. They are made in Belgium and are called Jiffy Rivets, though I have seen others that look more like rapid rivets also called Jiffy Rivets. I don't know where you can get them in Australia. Depending on size, they run about $8 to $15 for a box of 100. You should be able to get a discount if you buy 1000 or more. ed
Daggrim Report post Posted April 14, 2009 Those Jiffy rivets can be difficult. They're just pressure fit, and the shaft doesn't peen over inside the cap. They're not very secure. Maybe practice would make perfect, but I gave up on them after 50% of the rivets I put in a helmet failed the fingernail pull test. Just my experience.
