I don't know if i understand you correctly, is this your first holster or your first one for a blackhawk ? Either way it looks pretty good to me. I don't know the look you are going for ( as far as something new or something that is used and broken in). (this is just my ameture opinion)If you want something that looks new maybe add some edge dye and crease the perimeter where your stamps are. Your stitching looks pretty good from what i can tell. All in all i like it.

Welcome to the forum. Nice look on that holster. Trigger is a little more exposed than I've seen lately. Like the color too.

this was my first holster. the friend i made it for wanted a used/aged look so he would not look like the new buckaroo in the bunkhouse. i used 600 grit wet/dry sand papper to burnish the edges and distress the leather. i have to admit i have become a holster junkie now. great fun. thanks for the incouragment

thanks. being my first try i did not have proper materials so i used wood stain, coffee and 600 grit wet/dry automotive sandpaper to get the aged look and then coated it with tandy dye (bucks).

This is more of a question than a critique.....it seems to me that too much trigger guard is exposed when the gun is holstered. Is there no concern for accidentally hitting the trigger, or bumping it into something? Again, I'm just wondering if the trigger shouldn't be a bit more protected.

Please note...I am not a holster builder, just my thoughts.

Six guns are always carried with the hammer down on an empty chamber. (New Ruger revolvers have a transfer bar safety that can be carried safely with the hammer down on a loaded chamber.) Since revolvers are either single or double action you either have to cock the hammer or pull the trigger, 8 lbs to 12 lbs trigger pull for double action revolvers, to make the gun fire. So western holsters usually have more trigger showing than you will find with normal self defense holsters. The key to safety with any firearm is the gray matter between your ears. Never put your finger on the trigger until you are ready to shoot.
