JohnBarton Report post Posted April 19, 2009 Here is the orginal scallop design pattern that I developed with Peter Hackbarth based off my original design in 1992. This is recognizable as the Instroke Cowboy pattern that is one of the most copied (and still asked for) designs of the last 18 years. For all you aspiring cue case makers this is enough to get you started making cue cases as you can modify any of these parts to suit your needs. This is for a 2x4 (to hold 2 butts and 4 shafts) - hopefully I don't need to tell you how to modify the parts to fit any size and shape of case. Hint: Don't stretch them. Below is a small image representing the parts. This is also made to wrap around a hard shape such as pluming tubes bound together or a single plastic tube. Lately I have made one without a a hard interior and it turned out well but I am experimenting with a new material I found that is stiff and bends well without stressing to make the case as a in-between type between soft and hard. You can download the full size pattern at this link: http://www.jbcases.com/patterns/ The files are in PDF, CMX (CorelDraw) and AI (Adobe Illustrator)

Glock21 Report post Posted February 18, 2011 Is this pattern to scale? Meaning if I blow it up will all the peices be the correct size? brighthorizon Report post Posted February 18, 2011 Hi, do you have a finished case that uses this pattern? Please post pics. Regards, Arnel
moeg Report post Posted February 19, 2011 Thank you very much for this pattern. On your website you explain why you use the kind of interiors you have for your cases. I don't have access to anything like that. Do you have any suggestions for someone who will only make one or two cases, but still wants the maximum protection possible. Leather dividers, golf bag inner tubes, or rolling a piece of leather to make a tube? Any thoughts on this would be appreciated. Thanks again, Moe. You best bet is to to use plumbing and electrical tubes. 1.25" for the butt of the cue and .75 for the shafts. Run the liner through them, tape it on both ends and then tape the tubes together securely. Build your case around that. If you don't need rigid tubes then you can make divided interiors out of woven cardboard and fabric. I won't provide you with the exact patterns for those as it's our trade secret but with a little tinkering your should be able to figure it out. brighthorizon Report post Posted February 20, 2011 John, You make some awesome cue cases! I have lots of questions. I don't plan on making cue cases for a living just to make one for myself and maybe some friends. I just started tooling and so far only tooled an eagle on my motorcycle seat. What kind of liner material do you recommend when using plumbing or electrical tubing? Do you line the whole tube all the way through? Any glue used to keep liner in place? Where can I purchase the hardware for cases? Regards, Arnel
Tinneal Report post Posted August 25, 2011 Very nice pattern! But the PDF version doesn't seem to be working. It's full size, but only one page... What percentage should the .jpg be for it to be full size?
Majesticmustangs Leather Report post Posted November 11, 2013 Hi John, I looked at the full size patterns and when I go to print them out, it only has one page, not all of them. I love your design for the scalloped case. Is there a way I can blow up the small picture that I found of it? Thank you! Traci
colescarvings Report post Posted December 29, 2014 (edited) same problem here, the pdf is only partial, and the rest nothing will open them. Edited December 29, 2014 by colescarvings
Majesticmustangs Leather Report post Posted December 30, 2014 Hey Coles carvings, what I ended up doing was, I took John Barton's idea and expanded it. It's really pretty easy. I got another insert for the cues. They make cheap cases in which you can pull them out of. If you would like some pictures seems a reply to this message. Divrguy Report post Posted February 13, 2020 I know this is an old thread but I'm looking at making a case and I cant get any of these to open correctly. Has anyone converted them to something that could be opened in Illustrator or a Adobe? Or have patterns I could use? Thanks

Thanks If you are looking at PDF files, you should be able to open them directly in a web browser, without needing Adobe products. I know that I can open and read PDF files using Google Chrome, for example. I can also print from
