MyGalAl Report post Posted May 7, 2009 My daughter is looking at an old Stubben saddle made in Germany and I was wondering if anyone would know how to tell how old it is? It seems to be very well made and has an older logo on it; I wouldn't be surprised if it's 20+ years old. The leather seat is in excellent condition, but the flap shows wear. Also, the nap on the suede knee roll is gone and the color has faded. Any recommendations on how to revive the nap and bring some color back to it? I hear conflicting opinions on neatsfoot oil. Thanks so much!
pella Report post Posted May 8, 2009 I would dust it with a dry towel, then give a try with lexol cleaner then conditioner. You can finish with a glycerin soap to give a gloss. Put picture if you want more help on age. I would keep the suede knees as is, if you really want to revive it you need a brass brush but be careful not to pass trough suede. DONT put any oil or lexol on the suede knee.
skip Report post Posted May 8, 2009 I have used some eighty grit sand paper to rough up a couple saddle seats after they have become smoothe and have had very good luck with it since it is a hands on approach, you can actually see and feel how much leather you are removing. hope this helps. Thanks so much! Send "gesa" a PM on this. Shen is in the business in Germany so she might know about age of this Stübben saddle. /oldtimer Edited May 14, 2009 by oldtimer
