oldcowpoke Report post Posted May 20, 2009 Hi IM showing off my new leather cutter its made with earth magnets the magnets are hidden in the tubing every 6 inches apart and also in the cutter there are 3 that's how the cutter stays on the tubing as well and on the back were it mounts to a table there 2 small dove tails that screws to a table and you can loosen the 2 large plastic knobs and slide it to the right or the left and it comes off the table to get it off your work table it will cut a 2 oz. up to 15 oz. and its all set up for a one man operation the handle comes up over center and locks open so there's no danger of someone getting a finger stuck in it I have cut rubber paper vinyl leather ect. and its 8 foot long but can be made smaller This would work for those who use a jake sheer and a straight edge to block leather and for a strap cutter I hope to sell it to saddle Co. small mom and pop shops for Let me know what you think. oldcowpoke@charter.net Jack423 571 1364www.oldcowpoke.com to take a look at our machinery

McJeep Report post Posted May 20, 2009 Cool setup - is there a way to adjust the tension to allow for the thicker weights so as to not leave an impression of the clamping bar? How much would ya sell it for? Always the determining factor ... 'specially with mom & pop shops I would think
oldcowpoke Report post Posted May 20, 2009 Very interesting, What is your selling price. Thanks Dennis from Durango I think $750 will be the price Cool setup - is there a way to adjust the tension to allow for the thicker weights so as to not leave an impression of the clamping bar?How much would ya sell it for? Always the determining factor ... 'specially with mom & pop shops I would think I think we will be selling them for 750. and it will not leave a impression on the leather its all done with earth magnets so the system just clamps to itself

cajun Report post Posted May 21, 2009 very cool I don't mean to rain on your parade, but you may want to check and see what is already on the markert. Similar type things like this have been on the market since the 1960's at least. I used to manufacture picture framing equipment and their was a company call Seal in Conn. that made something very much like this. They were used to trim graphics and such. The computer age has taken over mat cutting in frame shops and lots of large manual mat cutters are being sold and they can do the same thing. I think you should see what is already out on the market before you invest too much money in this project. If memory serves me right , Seal used to get something like $75.00 for their unit. Best of luck , Bill

Ian Report post Posted May 21, 2009 Boy, that's a sharp set-up. If it's heavy enough to use for small production shops, it could be a winner. I used to do something mildly similar when I was doing a lot of belts, but had to clamp the leather down - cumbersome to say the least. Your idea of using magnets is awesome. Powder coat that baby and I can't see why it wouldn't be a big seller. Congratulations!
