Ludite Report post Posted May 28, 2009 A few pics of what I call prototypes given to gamekeepers. The idea being ,there out in the elements day in day out. I wanted see how my work would fare. These are bolt pouch`s In the UK when you come to anywhere land has public access you must remove your bolt from your rifle, or for that matter the rifle locked in trunk of your car the bolt must be removed and stay with the guns owner so : the bolt pouch.. Ten shot bullet pouch 0.243 : A caliber normally used on Fallow Deer and Roe Deer.. They seemed to have faired well ! what do you think?A smarter version might sell? rdb Report post Posted May 28, 2009 Doesn't seem to be a need for a fancier version, those do right fine! I'm not sure how the ammo case works, looks like the belt covers over the ammo, inside the flap. That's a good secure method, just don't know about access to the ammo, but it's probably good, anyways. Nice job. Looks like you have a good product to promote. UKRay Report post Posted May 28, 2009 Paul, I may be completely mistaken, but it looks as though you are using veg tan leather and staining/finishing it yourself. Whilst I agree with RDB that there is no need to change a thing, you did say you wanted to sell these pouches. If so, may I suggest you try using pre-finished leather as I think the design and construction is excellent but a sharper overall finish may appeal more to the UK shooting marketplace. Steve Brambley is the guy to discuss this with as he makes lots of wonderful stuff for shooters and some of the finest gun slips I have ever seen. Most of his leather is pre-finished and his products are some of the best in the UK. If you drop me a PM with your address I'll gladly send you a few samples of the sort of leather I have in mind plus addresses where you can obtain it. Regis Report post Posted May 28, 2009 I like the style, "secure". Do you have a liner to protect the bolt from the back of the snap? I use a bolt holster at benchrest matches. When the gun is not on the bench ponted down range, bolt must be out of gun. Best place is in bolt holster.
Ludite Report post Posted May 29, 2009 Thank you all for the comments most welcome, now answers to question first off. rdb:on the back of the ammo pouch there`s two 1 1/2" belt loops the flaps are an extension of the back panel same as pic. Next! UKray:Yes I do use veg-tan and dip dye in Tandy ECO-FLO dyes the darker colours have very poor covering ability, thou Canyon Tan I used on the Shotgun Six and six month`s practice comes up much better. I`ve learnt ,if you want a clean consistent tone you have to use the very best quality leather you can getjust look at the loops on the left a heavy grain which showed up after dying!! So I`ll drop you line to take up you offer.. For Now I`ve ordered some Fiebings Oil Based dye`s I`ll give them a go ! Onwards Regis:The second two bolt pouch`s in Bison Brown (dark) are lined two protect the bolt I used 1oz pig skin so far the gun oil has had a negligible effect on the lining`s but time will tell veg tan just drinks it up and you get a bloody mess in no time. As for the Bison Brown it was the first time I used it ,for distressed look ok ! you live and learn and they have held up to daily use quite well.. Thanking You Kindly Paul
TexasJack Report post Posted May 30, 2009 I like the ammo holder, but I suspect it would be better as 2 single units. The bolt holder is.... well, it's pretty sad that it's come to having to do that... but your holders look pretty good.
Ludite Report post Posted May 30, 2009 I like the ammo holder, but I suspect it would be better as 2 single units. The bolt holder is.... well, it's pretty sad that it's come to having to do that... but your holders look pretty good. As I said there prototypes the gamekeeper wanted a ten shot and being belt mounted the big long flap didn`t work . I could do a 5 by 5 version AL-la boxes and cases Vol 1 by uncle AL. you know the one that folds down! As for the bolt pouch In Sussex the state I live in you need about 2,000 arces of permissions (written permits to shot on private land) a Lilly white record , not mad ,and no recent separations oh an not terminally ill just to put an application in for a .22 ...... ......Soon you will need a permit to scratch your ..."£$%%^..... UKRay Report post Posted May 30, 2009 (edited) As someone who was born and bred in Sussex (well known to be one of the toughest places in the UK to get any kind of firearms permission), and held a class one firearms certificate for some twenty odd years, I can empathise with the feelings of frustration that most British folk feel about the UK's draconian gun laws. When I let my certificate expire, I had no idea how difficult it would be to apply for a new one and how many hoops needed to be jumped through to satistfy the demands of the firearms officers. I gave up in the end. I'm thinking about applying for a new shotgun license but can't bring myself to start the process as I know how painful it is going to be. The UK establishment needs to recognise that people are perfectly capable of running their own lives and thinking for themselves. Restrictions on firearm ownership simply means the only people with guns are the bad guys - and the police. And given the British police's record of shooting down innocent members of the public, I am dubious about how many of them should be allowed to carry. Rant over... for now! Lobo Report post Posted May 31, 2009 Your designs and execution certainly meet all essential criteria, and are very appealing to the eye as well. Certainly on the mark for function and form. I hope that a short spell in the dark, quiet room has restored you. Obviously, you have adjusted to the realities of your home territory, and continue to function well. I have visited the UK several times, and I know that you are facing what might seem to be insurmountable obstacles against fundamental common sense on many issues (not the least of which are hunting, firearms in private hands, etc). God willing, and the left-wing creek doesn't rise too quickly, I hope that I never have to deal with the sort of nonsense imposed upon good, honest people who simply wish to live a life of liberty and freedom of choice in their daily lives. Unfortunately, we now have an administration spanning both houses of congress, and controlling the White House, that share a hatred for any vestige of individual liberty. We shall see what the future brings for us here in the U.S. Best regards.
