First "classic" holster in a while

Recommended Posts

I say classic as in one of my original bread and better holsters. Its the first of this model I've stitched on the machine.

For some reason the Resolene isn't finishing on my blacks as nice as I'd like. I'll have to figure that out be it my spray pattern or leather prep. I'll get it back to expectations though.

Very nice Monica. I think my 226R needs one of those, well it has been on my to do list for a while just hasn't happened. I'll bet your fingers don't even hurt after stitching it do they?

It's the humidity down there. Cut it 1:1 with water. If you do try bottled, or test on scrap, y'all have a lot of different minerals as I recall. Still your tap water is soft and soft is good when it comes to tooling and molding.

Nice piece of work!

I think it looks awesome. Very sharp detail and the stitching looks great. :You_Rock_Emoticon:

I would love to buy a machine...I want to try to make a belt and dread the thought of hand stitching it.

Thanks guys.

This holster has its share of Oopses but nothing that wasn't fixed by some snipping, moving, going slow, etc :)

As I was telling a feller LWer, I enjoy the stitching machine very much. The stitching portion of the process use to feel like the last big hurdle before the rest was downhill. Now stitching is a breeze that takes just some thinking and going slow.

Beautiful work, Monica. I, too, handstitched everything for over 30 years. Had to do one by hand a few weeks ago while waiting for broken part replacement for my machine; felt like I was being punished for something!

Again, exceptionally nice presentation.

 I have my needles and thread handy just in case anything goes wrong.

Thank you.

Thread is 207. I'm not 100% sold on it with that stitch spacing and needle size. 346 would fill those holes better but I didn't want to waste thread so I'm using it for meanwhile and then I'll upsize it later. If I drop the stitch spacing down a notch it looks pretty good. I'm going to do an IWB with the smaller stitches for comparison. I just need to figure out the matching reverse stitch length before I do or else it will look goofy when I try that LOL

wow, 207. i also have the class 3 cobra from steve. ( i live near his store) i have been using 277 on my holsters, but would like to go up to a 346 on some of them. i have been playing with my stitching lengths as well. i like the looks of the medium length stitches but in the tighter turns i am finding that the shorter stitch lengths come out better. i've only had my machine a couple of weeks and am still learning the art of stitching with it.

You're seeing exactly why I want to drop my stitch length. Getting around some tighter radius curves the longer stitches are just kicking my tail. Shorter stitches will definitely help.

It's still taking me a bit to get things pretty. I put my flatbed on it. I modded the flatbed by wrapping it with thin leather. Otherwise the edge of the laminate would scrape up the backside of the leather I was working on. That worked like a charm I just have to be certain the edges of the pieces I'm working on don't catch.

My beginning/ends are getting better, especially the backside. But not quite there yet. My straight lines are still a bit crooked  If I can get the stitching around the curves worked out things will be going alright.
