Members iwannabeacowboy Posted July 11, 2009 Members Report Posted July 11, 2009 Has anyone used one of these before? Can't beat the price if it's anygood. $29.87 From Harbor Freight http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/disp...temnumber=65797 Charlie Quote
MADMAX22 Posted July 11, 2009 Report Posted July 11, 2009 That is basically what your looking for but for some reason I would not put my camera on a tripod that came with a kit for $30. The idea is sound though. Im not sure what wattage those lamps are but generally you want a decent high wattage light. Your gonna be filtering it and you still need enough to go thru. Heres a huge thread on building your own light box and setup and all that. http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=281524 I made mine at of pvc wrapped in white fabric and am using two of those 500w lights from lowes. THe orange ones that go for about $12 a pop. Quote
Members somewhereinusa Posted July 11, 2009 Members Report Posted July 11, 2009 Wal-Mart has something similar for about the same price. Quote
hidepounder Posted July 12, 2009 Report Posted July 12, 2009 Charlie, I agree with Max....it's conceptually what you need. I too worry that the lamps will do the job. I also discovered that with the one I use I always have to iron the backdrop fabric because the folds in the fabric show in the photos. The fact that is all folds up is handy for storage....I just hate ironing! I always thought it would be handy to have some sort of roll down shade on my bench to use for photos....someday I'll get around to trying it. Bob Quote
Members CitizenKate Posted July 12, 2009 Members Report Posted July 12, 2009 You can easily make one for about the same amount of money, but much larger. Here's a thread on LW on the subject (with photos): http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?s...light+box\ Kate Quote
Members iwannabeacowboy Posted July 12, 2009 Author Members Report Posted July 12, 2009 Thanks for the replys. I like the pic's of the pvc setup. I guess i'm off to Home Depot for supplies. Charlie Quote
Members whinewine Posted August 5, 2009 Members Report Posted August 5, 2009 Just a tip when using pvc- DON't glue the pieces together. That way everything can be taken apart & stored, and you can also configure it to fit your photographed subject. You can have a set of shorter legs, longer legs, deeper cross members, etc., so you can photograph anything from barrettes to purses (and things larger). Quote
Members Rayban Posted August 11, 2009 Members Report Posted August 11, 2009 Charlie, I took delivery on mine yesterday. I haven't played around with it much cept to take this picture. I think I'll replace the lights with some that are a bit stronger......a flash is still needed with these but that's not all bad. The reflecting walls bounce the flash real good for a nice even light. I really like how it breaks down, folds up and stores away in it's "handsome carrying case" Quote
