crissy Report post Posted August 5, 2009 hello fine leather craftier, I have been searching for images on close up shots of the cuts made properly into strap leather for tooled belts, cuffs and so on. I am wondering if some of the seasoned talent here might have some really close up images of a nice looking cuts, understanding at this point the leather is cased and knife is sharp, my interest is the look of the cut, I am doing fairly well but really would love to know what I should be looking for when the cuts are made.. then when the tooling has begun perhaps a nice close shot of that cut after some nice beveler hits. so that my less experienced self and the like may understand what we are looking for as best results. I would love to apprentice but that is not an option and so I am tossing this request into the mix to enhance our craftsmanship enjoy the day Quote Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Bobby That is truly a magnificent work of art! How long does it take you to do a project like that. I'm really just a novice myself, I carved and tooled a wallet and it took me around 8 hours or so. I am going to save the images and zoom in to get a good look likr you sugested. thank you for these Mr. Bobby and I have spent many hours going through posts which are loaded with valuable information not many tight shots of what I was looking for. Thanks Tim...on projects like these I draw the pattern and then trace it on How long does it take you to do a project like that. Thanks David....I don't remember exactly, but I think I have about 12-14 hours tooling that pattern, which does not include dyeing. I don't rush thru them anymore...I try to take the time I need to do the best job. Whos tools are those hidepounder, they look very nice. Thanks Max...the black tools are from Bob Beard. The others are Hackbarth and King. The swivel knife is a Henley with a Bob Beard blade. Thanks for all the nice comments everybody....but I didn't mean to hijack the thread.....I was just trying to help answer Butchkittys question. He is right....being able to see up close and personal what something is supposed to look like is a tremendous help. I took these photos with the idea in mind to create a tutorial, however I didn't achieve the closeness that I wanted to. I am going to photoshop some of the shots to try to salvage the idea.
