Medieval Style Belt Pouches / Purses

Recommended Posts

Have you looked at Purses In Pieces by Olaf Goubitz? Lots of good stuff in there, though the purses with flaps instead of hidden slits are more Northern European than Continental. You might also want to look at Rus and Birka finds.

My husband got a belt pouch he loved at a Ren.Faire in NJ years back. I took it apart, traced it, and have made several since - including this one for him. The one he'd bought was plain black. It's a pretty basic item, so I really don't feel I'm "stealing" someone's idea. I've seen this type of thing everywhere.

Thanks :-) I figured it was easier just to post it than send it only to one person.

My husband is Timothy Moore, formerly of Girard, Ohio. My family name is Atkinson, and I'm originally from New Jersey. We met at Grove City College in western PA - about an hour north of Pittsburgh.

Rose,

I'm SO SORRY, I made a real mess with your name, I think Chuck's company has a similar name, so I'll be confused.

Your site is very nice. If you dont mind, could you tell me wich tools are used to make the dragon's head ?

Again, I apologize about the mess...

LOL no problem. I find alot of people think my real name is Rose; I jokingly say "no, it's another plant...Holly"

I use alot of pretty basic tools: mostly checkered bevellers, small backgrounders and such. All from Tandy.

Just adding to this post. Based on the above design for inspiration :) I came up with this. Once finished Ill add some more photos.

As you can see I went for the drop belt straps (which you cant see from these pics unless you know what your looking for.Added a 40mm deep gusset. Also included some internal pouches.

Sewed the pouches first then the gusset and turned it inside out.

This was chromed leather so no emboss work. It was a quick 'let see how this pattern works" trial. the markings on the front if you can see them is poker work which did not come out to well on this sort of leather.

thanks for the original post and pattern
