Howdy Robin

When I was up in Sheridan WY, Bob Klenda had pattern packs for sale. I bet if you bought on and give him a call he would walk you thru via phone.

I had some of the Tandy pattern packs, and the most useful advice I ever got was from a biker/leatherworker who instructed me how to make one using the customer's own jeans. I made a pair of shotgun chaps for my dad that way. (ps, all by hand, I don't have a leather sewing machine) That was a while back though, and I don't have contact with that person anymore.

Hello. I'm going to give a vote to the Dusty Johnson video on chapmaking.

It was no nonesense, very straight forward. It's available direct or from various other sources including hidecrafter. Cheers!

Actually, I have that video; you're right, it's pretty straightforward.

I know this maybe to late but I have just made a how to make chinks DVD that will help you make chaps. This is a 2 1/2 hour DVD that goes from start to finish on a single pair so you get to see how I make mine. you can order them at www.cowcampsaddlery.webs.com

I have made a several pair of chinks, The first ones my daughter & I made using Dusty Johnson's Video, and a Tandy Pattern. (I bought the Video 2nd hand and it did not have a pattern with it.) It helped me a lot then because I did not know anything about it. This worked ok in the beginning, I then purchased some of Bob Klenda's patterns, I liked them even better. Just last week I received the DVD by Cowcamp Saddlery and it is great! I really like how detailed the measuring instructions are and why each measurement is important for a more precise fit. I can now apply this method to the different maker patterns I have depending on the style my customer is wanting, and the shape of the piece of leather I have to work with. It is well worth the money!
