zman7458 Report post Posted March 22, 2008 anyone else out there using one of these for carving? I find I get a much smoother curve being able to easily rotate my work as I cut. the marble turntable has nice weight to it and feels more substantial than a regular metal one. although I imagine the metal type would work as well. you can find them here http://www.marble-art-gemstones.com/-Grani...CFQd7IgodL0ZaNQ a little pricey, but you can find them around for cheaper. I bought mine years ago, but around 50 - 75 bucks I would think.

Myriam Report post Posted March 22, 2008 Didn't know they are making these. I've had this idea in the back of my mind for some time now, to make a lazy susan and put my square marble slab on it. These are nice but they're just a little over my budget though Where did I put my lottery ticket...
Drac Report post Posted March 23, 2008 I remember back in the 70's there were these things you stood on and basically did "the twist" to excersize. they were metal top and bottom with a bearing system inside. might be able to find one of those a lot cheaper and it would definitely hold up. zman7458 Report post Posted March 23, 2008 (edited) you can find them for way cheaper and still made of marble... http://www.theglasswarestore.com/asp/show_...d=FR260-FBR1542 but I think you could probably find decent quality for 50 to $75 I put my poundo board on mine for pattern transfers and cutting in, just to keep the leather from sliding on the slick marble. I don't think it would be sturdy enough to tool on though. I was afraid to try Edited March 23, 2008 by zman7458

anne newkold Report post Posted March 23, 2008 (edited) Hide Crafter carries the turntable to set your marble on. I have used the one I got from Hide Crafter's for 7 years now. Pretty sturdy. Edited March 23, 2008 by anne newkold
Drac Report post Posted March 23, 2008 tracy I doubt it would, even being hgh impact plastic. the ones from the 70's were all metal (including the bearing races) and sturdy enough to set a slab on and do tooling. but for being just 10 bucks, might be worth a shot anyway.
