Members Duke Posted March 23, 2008 Members Report Posted March 23, 2008 looks good mike! remember to recess your stitches. you dont want them busting loose. Members indypbear Posted March 23, 2008 Members Report Posted March 23, 2008 Mike, Pretty nice Mr. Cubmaster. $0.02 worth you might slick the inside of the filigree a little to eliminate the raw inside edge. Also seem to have some challenges with the stitching. They show more with that much contrast in color, don't cha know. An over stitch wheel of choice, 1/16" drive punch with a sharpened end and some beeswax makes great stitching holes. I hope that didn't offend but you are doing some really good work. I'm an oak nut. I love oak and grape leaves. How's that Tiger Cub doing? Happy toolin' Indy Quote
Members tazzmann Posted March 23, 2008 Author Members Report Posted March 23, 2008 thanks guys for the comments. There is a stitching groove in there, the pics just don't show it much. it is the first handstitching I have done in 15 years as well, being a lace guy, so it was a little challenging, but the customer just loves it, so I think that is what counts. I didn't think about the slicking, good call. i have 4 more sheaths to go, so everything should shooth out over the next couple. Members tazzmann Posted March 23, 2008 Author Members Report Posted March 23, 2008 (edited) LOL...thanks spidy! "Stab" is right. i can't tell you how many times i poked myself when stitching this up. i forgot how much more difficult it is to sew through almost 3/4" of leather! Especially without a stitching pony! Members Spider Posted March 23, 2008 Members Report Posted March 23, 2008 OMG!!! Sorry but that would be a reason to get out the rotary tool or drill press. I have the pony but I still sometimes press against a flat surface. Good work on this though....3/4"....no way....
