Hedge Report post Posted March 23, 2008 From what I can make out (me eyes are gettin' old) you've got some nice work there, Mark. I know what you mean about coloring it. I always cringe when I start adding coloring agents to some tooling. I just know it'll be ruined! I have a suggestion, though. The detail you've put into this piece needs to be shown off. Without some highligts, it just doesn't show off like it deserves to. If you still have a piece of the hide that was cut from, do a little tooling on it to experiment. Then, apply some antiqueing paste, let it set for a bit and rub off, letting it fill in where you want some definition. When it's dry, rub in some saddler's oil. I think you'll find that your work will really stand out then.

I have used both to finish but never together. I think we have the first tip for the web site. Thanks http://www.theleathercraftsman.com

Hedge Report post Posted March 23, 2008 I picked up that trick watching a saddle maker finish off a notebook cover. Sure gave the leather a nice look. CollinsMS Report post Posted March 25, 2008 Wow. Outstanding detail!Brent Thanks. I came close to loosing some hair over this one. It is only an 8x10. Some of the things the picture does not show is the stubble of beard on the cowboy's face. The tail on the horse you can feel the swoosh. Thanks again
CitizenKate Report post Posted March 25, 2008 Here's a little something from Vaughn Monroe to add some background to this... Enjoy... Kate
CollinsMS Report post Posted March 25, 2008 That is very cool. I listened to the original song at least a dozen times wile putting the design together.
CitizenKate Report post Posted March 25, 2008 I'd say the design is very true to the legend. Thanks for sharing! Kate PS: I've been a fan of that song since the 70's.
CitizenKate Report post Posted July 1, 2008 Had to revive this thread once more... someone posted the Blues Brothers' version of Ghost Riders on youtube, and I just had to share it with all you Ghost Riders fans out there. The drama and special effects is typical Blues Brothers, but the rendition has a touch of Charlie Daniels. So fun! Enjoy... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n4if0vC0Ioc Kate
