Members ABC3 Posted September 4, 2009 Members Report Posted September 4, 2009 I'm getting ready to make a "horse hide" belt & was wondering if the process was the same. I am going to make the liner out of 6/7 "bull hide" & then glue & sew the "horse hide" together. I have no experience, whatsoever, with "horse hide". So my questions are: Is the process the same as "bull" ? Dyeing, Sewing, Burnishing, Sealer, Final Coat ect. Thanks in advance for your help. Quote
Members NoahL Posted September 4, 2009 Members Report Posted September 4, 2009 Well, I've never worked with bullhide, but I do use horsehide for everything. Horsehide works just like normal leather, except it burnishes easier (in my experience), so I don't think you should have any problems. I look forward to seeing the belt! ~Noah Quote
Mike Craw Posted September 6, 2009 Report Posted September 6, 2009 Tom and Noah, I just got done searching this topic and I'd like to know where you get you horsehide? Thanks! Mike Quote
Members ABC3 Posted September 6, 2009 Author Members Report Posted September 6, 2009 Mike, I ordered a small amount from Springfield Leather. That's the only place I know that has any at all. If you find a supplier, let me know. Thanks, Tom and Noah, I just got done searching this topic and I'd like to know where you get you horsehide? Thanks! Mike Quote
Leather Bum Posted September 7, 2009 Report Posted September 7, 2009 (edited) I've noticed Siegel of California sells what they call "Hard Rolled" and "Soft Rolled" horse butts. . . though I've no idea what it's like. Micah Edited September 7, 2009 by Leather Bum Quote
Members NoahL Posted September 7, 2009 Members Report Posted September 7, 2009 I use Milton Sokol--quick shipping, low prices, and good leather. Call and ask for Pete Olsen, he'll hook you up; (718) 441-2226 ~Noah Quote
Mike Craw Posted September 7, 2009 Report Posted September 7, 2009 My thanks to all three of you! I have a friend who wants a holster and belt out of hourshide, and I had no idea where to look for a supply. Mike Quote
