Chesnut skirting

I purchased Herman oak chesnut skirting from Weavers. well after building a carved saddle with it, at all the places where there is any kind of friction , under stirrups leaters and on the fenders the epidermis just rubbed off in Two rides. Why ? Anyone experienced this before?

Post a picture. I use HO and would be interested in what it looks like. I can see that happening on the riggings were you stirrup leathers rub, but on the fender were your leg would ride seems odd.

I have used both the chestnut and chocolated drum dyed from Hermann Oak on some gun/Cartridge belts and other projects and haven't noticed any rubbing off tendencies. I haven't used either one on a saddle yet, but I would be very interested in what you determine.

Also, the most recent chestnut that I got from Hermann Oak, was much lighter that the previous sides. Has anyone elso noticed this difference?

Mine in Nov. were much lighter also compared to the ones I got in April.
