Curbstrap2 Report post Posted October 17, 2009 Hello again, Sorry for the endless barrage of saddle questions today. Thanks for putting up with me. So heres the deal. I am looking at a couple of different saddles on line (posted previously) and just came across this one: http://cgi.ebay.com/Used-Endurance-Trail-Pleasure-Saddle-NR_W0QQitemZ300357873251QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item45eeb96e63 I like the rigging and it needs repairs, but that's ok. Can anyone tell if this is a Mule saddle or not?
barra Report post Posted October 17, 2009 Curbstrap. The main issue I see is most evident in pic 10. See the leather from the rigging D, up past the breast collar D. It has torn like a perforated postage stamp. A good sign of leather rot. If it is rotten in this area it is rotten elsewhere as well. Barra

Can anyone tell if this is a Mule saddle or not? Curbstrap, There is no such thing as a Mule saddle , Arabian saddle or gaited horse saddle. There is only the shape of the animal in front of you and a saddle that will match. The notion that we can fit by breed is a marketing tactic not a reality. It is true that a breed can give you a idea of what to expect but the second you make it a law an animal will come along and make a criminal of the idea. As for the saddle I would say: Turn in the opposite direction and run! David Genadek
mulefool Report post Posted October 20, 2009 Even if it wasn't torn, I would steer clear of that saddle. The skirts are crooked, and I'm not sure what they lined them with, but it doesn't look good. Are you looking for a saddle for a mule? Ssome manufacturers will just throw some britchen and crupper dees on and call it a mule saddle. Others have a tree with flatter bars, but that certainly doesn't mean it will fit all mules. Chris I also wonder about buying saddles on Ebay. It seems like making sure it would fit would be pretty important. Especially with some off brand or unknown saddle seems like buying a pig in a poke. maybe okay if buying a known brand that you know their trees will fit, but otherwise just seems pretty iffy to me.
