Billy P Report post Posted March 29, 2008 Hey everybody, hope this finds everyone well and in good spirits. Now a question, does anyone know if the new owners of Hidecrafters has come out with a new catalog yet? If not, has anybody heard when they might issue one? Just curious and looking forward to the day that it does come out. Thanks a lot, and everyone have a good evening. Later Billy P
LarryB Report post Posted March 30, 2008 Glad you asked that Billy. I was just looking at my old cataloge and wondering if anyone got any new information from them. I'll wait and see what you find out.
Rawhide Report post Posted March 30, 2008 I asked Ron, the store manager, that the other day. He said they are working on getting the website going first. They are going to have it where you can order online. It's just a lot of quantity issues with the ordering process that's giving them trouble. He said they are planning to have the new catalog out this year, but the website is first on the agenda. Marlon
CitizenKate Report post Posted March 30, 2008 Do they have an ETA on the new web site, then? I tried to place an order with them a couple of weeks ago, and couldn't get anyone on the phone to take my order. Kate

I can't remember which month though. He said that's what they're telling him. He said he doesn't expect it to be up and running when they say it will. He says he'll believe it when he sees it. On a lighter note about them, they have started to carry Artisan sewing machines. Steve will be in town for an onsite appearance in late April. I joked about April Fools Day and he said no that it was supposed to be done then. I just got another 10th Anniversary catalog and price sheet last week. Many items in the sheet and catalog are no longer available as I found out in December when I went to the store. Regards, Ben
CitizenKate Report post Posted March 31, 2008 Thanks for the update, Marlon. I'll be eagerly awaiting the time when they get their operation up to speed. Kate
Rawhide Report post Posted March 31, 2008 Thanks for the update, Marlon. I'll be eagerly awaiting the time when they get their operation up to speed.Kate Yeah I know. A lot of folks feel the same way. I guess I'm pretty lucky. I live about a 15 min. drive away from them. So it's easy to just drop in. I also noticed they have some exotics for sale now. Pretty pricey for me right now, but they had alligator, ostrich, lizard, fish, and frog skins. If I remember correctly, the alligator was about 450.00 (that's U.S. not pesos) for a 6-7 cm (across the belly) gator. It may have been 20-24 inches long. Beaverslayer Report post Posted March 31, 2008 WOW, that alligator works out to about $1200.00 a square foot. Kinda makes me want to fill the bathtub up and grow a few of those things. Ken
Kevin Report post Posted March 31, 2008 The last alligator we got cost $21.21 per sq. centimeter. I added 1/3 for waste (probably not enough for exotic) and doubled for profit. A simple 2 1/2"x 3" credit card slip ended up somewhere around $500! I wasn't aware beforehand so I hadn't given the customer a price. I charged him about $50. Boss says no mo' 'gator!! Leerwerker Report post Posted April 2, 2008 A member of our guild got a letter from Hidecrafters to ask if they owe him any money - some story about bankruptcy - is George Hurst retiring completely or what is their latest status in a nutshell?
anne newkold Report post Posted April 2, 2008 A member of our guild got a letter from Hidecrafters to ask if they owe him any money - some story about bankruptcy - is George Hurst retiring completely or what is their latest status in a nutshell? George Hurst, Hide Crafter Productions former owner of Hide Crafter is filling bankruptcy. Hide Crafter Leather Company is now owned by Hideco still doing business as Hide Crafter. George is still making videos and is being retained by the new owners for the videos and as a consultant. George will still be making appearances at Trade shows and teaching classes. Last I talked to Ron the new owners are still working on a lot of things, the web site, new catalog, new direction they want to take Hide Crafter's. Just be patient.
