Members jiml Posted December 6, 2009 Members Report Posted December 6, 2009 Can someone please help!! I'm building a large leather bound mirror frame for a christmas present. I'm scoring the main portion in a diamond shape pattern and I got off on one of the lines. The leather is already glued to the frame so replacing is really not an option. Does anyone have any great ideas on how to hide/cover up/repair a cut. Any and all ideas are welcome. Will post pictures when I'm done....... Quote
Members KenE Posted December 6, 2009 Members Report Posted December 6, 2009 Not to sound obvious, but covering up a cut will probably be pretty tricky. You will probably always see it, its just a matter of "lessening" the blemish. Have you tried flattening it out with the modeling spoon? I'd say to glue the cut, but then when you dye the piece it will come out with a spot where the glue is if you don't do it perfectly. Can you post pictures of the mistake? Quote
Contributing Member TwinOaks Posted December 7, 2009 Contributing Member Report Posted December 7, 2009 "If you can't hide it make it obvious"- old architect's saying. Without seeing the mistake, it's kinda hard to give good advice. We do need to see it. As far as which way to think about the repair, think of scribing a line and adding a border to cover it. Quote
Members flyingcuda Posted December 7, 2009 Members Report Posted December 7, 2009 maybe carving the recipients initials, using the boo boo as part of it? good luck Quote
Members jiml Posted December 7, 2009 Author Members Report Posted December 7, 2009 Excellent ideas all!!! I did try smoothing which did help quite a bit, I also thought of the idea of incorporating the mistake into a design. (Absolutley love the saying "if you can't hide it, make it obvious!) it's not as bad as it started out being, of course as soon as it happened I freaked out and came straight to the forum! I will post some pictures today! Thanks again for the great advice! Quote
