  1. thank you folks! i have decided to just "wing it" pun totally intended @billybob, my hubby is a successful beer hunter as well!!
  2. the pattern looks easy enough, i don't know about the measurements that are used, as i said, i'm not a hunter, i have no idea if the straps are 18 inches or 36 inches, so this is where i need the assistance
  3. apparently it goes over the shoulder?
  4. does anyone know if there is a pattern for making a duck tote or carrier? i am not a hunter, but have been requested to make one. they look simple enough, i just have no clue for measurements.
  5. I am totally clueless! need help. I have searched and searched, I can not find anything to help me make a rifle sling! I seem to still have an issue with my mouth and brain not agreeing! friend asks...can you make a sling...me...never done one, friend...wanna try? me...mouth spouts yes! brain face palms and shakes it's head! does anyone know if there are templates available? i don't want one with a sliding shoulder piece? want it to be all one piece so that i have the carving space. how long should i make it? any and all help will be so appreciated!
  6. someone would like me to make a sling for her father for his shot gun, i've not made any before, curious on what the pricing should be around. i've attached a picture she sent of what she would kind of like.
  7. hello, i have been requested to do 10 belts for a wedding party. i've only done belts for hubby, i used his old belts for measurements. i know that going off pant sizes don't work. is there a simple way to do this or do i have to get each gentleman to physically measure his waist?
  8. I charged him $500.00 for the works. unfortunately...not enough
  9. thank you he now wants matching saddle bags I've not ever done them before either. not sure what I should charge for that one...I do know I want to add the pita fee
  10. he now wants matching saddle bags....thank you for the replies
  11. this was a frustrating job for me, mainly because of the customer, he was in pretty much every 2 days, I had many do overs because he didn't like the size, colour or lacing...all of which he chose...but regardless, it is finished and gone!
  12. after months of blood, sweat, tears and many colourful words and phrases, I am so very happy to see this one go. I had to deal with many do overs, because the colour wasn't right or the lacing wasn't what he wanted, the size was wrong and so on. the customer was certainly my biggest challenge. tell me what he wanted then changed his mind when he saw the result. I think I will add a pita fee for the next one. anyways, thank you to all who offered words of advise and encouragement!!
  13. absolutely stunning!!!! i've never seen one with so many sections, i am currently trying to do my first seat for a customer, i am having a difficult time trying to figure out how to do the sides. would it be easier to put several pieces together, or one long wrap around? the seat is similar to the one you have hear, except we had to shave the foam down for him.
  14. speechless!!! absolutely beautiful! what braiding is that, and what lace did you use?
  15. pretty much going to be lacing where the stitch line is in the photo (where the black joins with the white) i'm planning on lacing the top piece to a side pannel that will go underneath the seat. i would much rather do it all one piece, but customer wants the lacing
  16. hello, i am asking for some help. i am working on this project, first time for me involving motorcycle seats. there is carving and tooling involved. asked to shave seat foam down as well. i have done a lot of research and it has left me more confused. do i wet mold the large seat? some suggest oiling the leather before dying and antiquing, others don't. some suggest assembly first then dying and antiquing, others don't. some suggest the mexican braiding, others suggest double loop. i am also dying by hand, rather than airbrushing...don't know how to yet the customer also wants the darker edges and coming to the center lighter. any help would certainly be appreciated.
  17. it's actually indents in the leather, i thought they may have had something splattered on it. i will re do all that i have done so far and not do the oiling part first i guess thank you all for taking the time to try to help me
  18. i actually used neatsfoot oil, not linseed :s i don't believe it is mold or mildew, i purchased it from tandy last week. a few faint spots showed up when i cased it, then went away during the carving and tooling. i took the picture about 6 hours after i oiled it. still have the dark spots on it now... aprox 27 hours later.
  19. i did do a search and it gave me a lot on dye spots, hardware spots and so on but after 2 hours of looking, i thought i would just ask PITA fee sounds like an awesome idea
  20. hello all, i am working on a back rest for a motorcycle, it was fine up until i applied the linseed oil...and then voila!! spots spots spots everywhere! this is my very first attempt at doing seats, which unfortunately for me is not a nice easy shape to deal with...but that's for another category. my question is...should i continue with the dying, antiquing and finish, or should i cut my losses now and use a different piece of leather. customer is starting to get impatient and wants the seat yesterday
  21. thank you for the advice folks i did suggest vinyl, but he wants leather
  22. a friend has asked me to re do his seat in leather, no tooling, just black leather. i have not done one yet. just wondering what leather would be best to use. any help and suggestions would be greatly appreciated. oh, and what do you recommend for finishing it with to prevent the elements in harming it. thanks for taking the time to read. i will try to attach a photo of the seat to be worked on.
