  1. they look great...the blue and black go very well together. having them not match exactly gives it more of the hand made feel to it. awesome work!
  2. a 2 inch belt made for a customer..i think it's too big but he loved it...
  3. very nicely done! i need to stop looking in here, i am going to be trying my hand at bike seats. seeing all the awesome work in here is intimidating..i should maybe stop looking until after i have tried? great work!!
  4. hello, i can't really help you but i can share my experience...i have had this happen as well and the only thing i can figure out is that it became contaminated...posibly by a brush used for a different colour that i may not have cleaned completely. i would like to think it was a bad batch rather than my fault..but i think the odds are against me.
  5. hello all, i am soooo frustrated with hydro rates...for 2 months we have a hydro bill of 1100.00 canadian. now to me..this is very outragious! if we don't pay by june 10th they will cut us off...surprise surprise..we just paid them 500 on the 5th of this month. i am totally fed up with thier bullying. hubby and i have been discussing building our own windpower source...wind turbine. does anyone have any experience with this? we can buy a pretty much ready to go system for around 5 grand, unfortunatly..i think i left that money in my other pants i have looked on the internet and so far just a lot of..buy our manuals. if anyone has any input..i would really be greatful. thanks
  6. thank you all.. i think i will give this new adventure a shot. TinaL....i think my biggest problem will now be that hubby will want a bike even more now than ever...i can hear him now...you'll need a real bike to practice with
  7. thanks guys...i have been reading...there is sooooo much awesome advice...i guess the part i'm having problems with is putting it all in order. thickness varies, shapes...and so on...different foams, am i best to start with just the leather part of it? what is the best way to attach...i've seen lacing, studding, rivets, glues. i will continue reading though, this place is vary priceless and so incredible. i think i want to learn it all too fast. how long would you say it takes to be able to produce something sellable for a seat...i know you cant put a precise time on it...but am i looking at 5 months..2 years? the carving i think i can manage..but the building of the seat...oh..and is there much in the way of shrinkage? i've only done things like key fobs, belts , collars and dream catchers. nothing in the way of larger projects. again..thanks to all of you for helping and being so free with your knowledge!
  8. welcome aboard! very nicely done. i'm sure you'll have fun here.
  9. i have been considering doing seats for bikes...no one in my area does this. i am female, don't own a bike..hubby wants one bad though. what would be the best way for me to start? i called a bike salvage place to see about picking up a trashed seat to practice on...she wants me to do the seats for them! i told her that i have never done one..i dont know if i would be any good at it, but she wants me to go in and discuss it with her. so this seems like it will be a lucrative venture..but i have no clue where to start..any help in direction would be greatly appreciated! thanks.
  10. i don't see a pic, don't know if it's my computer or if the pic is not there
  11. another dream catcher done..this one is for my mom for mother's day. my swivel knife died half way through this project..thought i had replacement blades...i was wrong...the mallet got a real good work out! hope you like. happy mother's day all
  12. here's me...http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#/profile.php?id=619580601&ref=profile if it doesnt work...i'm half pint, my pic is a sign..how to impress a man....
  13. does anyone know of these machines? are they good enough for sewing leather? i dont have a machine and i may be able to get this, but i need to know if it will do or not. thanks for any help that you may have.
  14. ..........sorry..had to wait to get my chin off the keyboard! that is beautiful!!!
  15. i love this place! ok..so after you have a good giggle... what does the oil do? i have never used any oil, and when do you apply?...dye, dry, super sheen, then oil? and when do you add hi-lite? and is this for all leather projects or just saddles? i hope you didn't hurt yourself when you rolled onto the floor laughing i know i should get books, but they are very expensive at tandy in toronto and no one in my area has the good taste to carry any leatherworking books or products at all. so you folks are my only hope in learning.
  16. mine is as hard as a rock! is there a way to bring it back to life? the nearest tandy is 3 hours away, so just scooting out to get another one isn't the answer right now. i've tried looking around to see if someone else my carry it but as i have come to realise is that no one around here has anything i need. think if i ask nicely, they may open a tandy in my little no where town just for me?
  17. Wow!!! ok...admit it...whose eyes were getting a little damp when they heard her, mine did...that's how i know when a musician has hit that inner cord and not just my ear drum. kinda sad though...that she hasn't found her soul mate
  18. if you wish to do any carvings you will need other tools as well, i use a stylus, beveler, rawhide mallet, swivel knife, there are many other tools...and then there are dyes and finishes...i believe there is a section for tools and how to use them? ...what's wrong with the donuts????? i had one
  19. hello, i'm from canada but my in-laws who are living with us are from scotland, one from glasgow and the other from the isle of bute.
  20. i know the feeling i opened a lingerie store which has a small section for the adult toys..not in plain view..and i also have some of my leather displayed. we are 2 months late in our rent, and our bills are building much faster than money coming in. it looks like we will have to close up shop. i really don't want to, i know that in time it will pick up again..but the ones owed money are not going to be much more patient. i get advice to advertise more...great idea!!!! if you have the money for it. so thats a no go. like you..my leather supplies are dwindling. market yourself better?...how do you do that without the dollars to assist in that. maybe put up some local flyers that for the next month or so..saying that during these hard times we will lower our prices not our standards? do you have a local radio station or newspaper? maybe see if you can sponser a contest of some sort where the prize is something from you...like a key fob with your towns name on it or something? i dont know if they would charge you for that or not...maybe tell them that if they advertise this contest for you...that WHEN business picks up for you...then you would be willing to pay for ads when the money starts flowing again. sorry...didnt realise i had typed this much. just wanted to let you know that you are definatly not suffering alone
  21. very nice looking! hopefully it helps with the recovery. hard to see friends go through struggles, but harder to see them leave. best of wishes to you and your friend.
  22. i gotta get me one of those!!..that looks great! i use the syringes as well,..never thought of the medicine cups..
  23. i was a stay at home mom...did'nt like the idea of someone else looking after my babes. hard to trust people with the care of your children. anyways...money was not flowing as we had hoped, hubby said there was money to be had in adult leather items. he actually did the shopping at tandy, brought home the goodies, as soon as i smelled and felt the leather...well...that was it for me..i knew i had a new passion!
  24. ...what he said...my granddaughter loved chewing on a piece of leather that i had here...still not quite sure how she got it. how about a baby keepsake box... i know there are things i kept for my children...i wasnt into the leather at the time...i just had a simple cardboard box...but a leather one would have been very special!...congratulations!!!!!
