Well everyone, I'm back and I must say I have missed this place. Thanks to all that sent me emails asking how things were going, and also the Birthday wishes, you guys and gals are GREAT. Well anyways, I'm starting a new vest so I thought, what the hey may as well do a tutorial while I'm at it. This will most likely turn out to be a very long thread, but again, what the hey... Just after joining this forum, a few of you had sent me PM's asking for a hat pattern, I appologize to all of you for not sending them. But, as they say patience is virtue and here we have what you were looking for. Well as promised, now that Wolvie ahs gotten his PIF from me (although he hasn't posted pics) here's the way I make my Canadian "Kempi" style hat. Everything is the same to make a typical baseball style hat, you just use a diferent pattern for the pieces. If you are wanting to make a baseball cap using this tutorial and do not have a pattern, well, see that old ball cap up there on the shelf in the front hall closet???? take it, and cut it apart at the seams…

I’m a novice leather worker - mostly spent my time making smaller goods like wallets, bags, and pouches. BUT! I want to try to make a vest, specifically like the one below. There are a few things things I do know but a million I don’t - like how to join shearling panels (I don’t like the puffy seams typically associated with shearling), or how to attach an out leather to the shearling. I have found some patterns to replicate and I know this won’t be perfect; ultimately my goal will be to have a decent vest and a be a little smarter coming out than I was going in.

I thought I would share some pictures of my first leather jacket I made. I have had a leather/nubuck jacket from GAP for 20 years, I really loved it and alway wondered if I could maybe make one. Quite quickly I realised a household machine was not going to work, so I bought a speedy stitcher and a stitch wheel. With these trusty tools I set about making templates of my jacket taking note of the felled and half felled seams. Once I was happy with this I did a few trials of how much seam was needed for the desired result. With seams added to the pattern I started to cut out the pattern.

These are some photos of a leather vest I just finished for the 2014 United Bowhunters of Missouri auction happening this February. It is made from 4 oz buffalo leather, trimmed in deer and lined with fleece. The logo on the back is a collection of leathers; deer, shark, ostrich and embossed cowhide. Everything was sewn by hand using artificial sinew. The size is 44R. To keep the smaller and bigger people from feeling left out, I donated a second vest that will be made to the winner's specifications and my limited artistic ability. Darren

I had made a pair of chaps for one of Gustavs friends. I had been asked to make them exactly the same size, so I did.. The first time he tried them on he realized they were too small around the waist, and the legs should have been 4" longer. It is a guy who has helped Gustav a lot, and Gustav wanted to give them to him as a gift, and since he is the only western rider I know of in Denmark, I had promised to make them.
