  1. start to finish..how would you proceed, i can't do the swivel knife yet...too scarry i will be doing it on a round piece of leather. i don't have antique..thought i did..but i do have hi liter. thought about trying the white in the cloudy parts..but have not had any luck with white. i also have leather glow. this is going to be an important and sentimental piece for me. i thought if i could get some expert's thoughts..it may save me some heart break. thanks!
  2. aaarrrggghhhh! i tried again...wanna rip it all apart and forget about it! there..done ranting. i can get the front to look good..but around the back is a mess! doesn't look good at all...i have no clue what i'm doing wrong, i am left handed but i only eat and write left handed...everything else is done right hand...i'm wondering if i am conflicting with myself..you know..left and right brain trying to dominate each other ...i'm sure my stubbourness won't let me give in yet...sorry..just needed to get that out of me.
  3. very nice work! everyone here is very helpful and passionate... as you will see on some of the threads. enjoy your stay!
  4. what a thread! the pure passion of beliefs! not a wonder we see all the incredible art here. unfortunatly i don't think there will ever be a winner in this. animals have always and more than likely always will be used for our needs...sad but true. perhaps if your girlfriend can see it in a different way.... they are going to be killed regardless..no matter what she or anyone believes....instead of the hides going to waste..you can take it and create something beautiful in honour of the animal...not trying to be corny..but seriously..if she can see the beauty in it..she may be able to accept it better. the feel and the smell of leather is almost intoxicating. we take pictures of the ones we love...to preserve what they have contributed to our lives. when we lose someone...do we burn those photos? we are honouring the animals by making something useful from what they left behind. sorry..going way off direction here. it's great that you want to make your girlfriend happy...but don't let her dictate what you do, life is too short...good luck and don't let the passions of others dictate what you do either...don't be angry with the folks who got carried away here...they love what they do and perhaps they felt attacked too. let us know how this turns out for you...best of luck linda
  5. very awesome! i don't think i would be letting anyone's bottom on there!
  6. hello, i have no experience with sewing, except the few rips in the kids clothes or whatever..but no machine experience. i am wanting to go further with the leather work, i can't afford an industrial machine, i have an older singer style-o-matic 328. does anyone know what thickness this machine would be able to handle? and where a good place to start learning how to sew with a machine would be? thank you.
  7. music..usually tea party...metallica. then i have to have a drink, usually a beer to steady the hands...i am the type to beat myself up before i start the kids and hubby know that they don't come near me when i am working...i can mess things up pretty good on my own now if i can figure out a way to make a leather boo boo eraser...i'd have it made!
  8. i'm sure you will enjoy it here. trial and error is is how we develope new ways of improving. but it is also great to have a place to start. everyone here is very helpful...just ask. and pictures are a must. happy carving!

  16. hello all, i have a small lingerie shop that i have opened up, i do my leather work there as well...so far just things like dog collars, belts, key tags and a few adult items..nothing drastic...yet i have been asked by a few people for leather bras.... i have no experience with sewing what so ever...well i can hand stitch my kids shirt or whatever..but that is it. i have an older sewing machine...waiting till i can afford a heavy duty one. i have no experience with patterns at all. i guess i should have taken home ec can someone point me in the right direction for accomplishing this? have a great day!

  20. no, i haven't.. but at this point i'm willing to bight anything .. sorry i know... that was bad...but it's either scream and yell or it's bad humour. thank you..when i get my nerve back i will check it out, but i did get a braiding book and all the bights and stuff hurt my head..it had me lost at the intro page
  21. well...my piece has been sitting on my counter since october!...looks awesome, followed the tutorial...really nice..black and blue handle...blue tails...pretty. all suede. she sits there because i can't do the turks head i have read and re read the tutorial but to no avail...it actually stings when i see it sitting there waiting for me to finish her off. i haven't attempted it since december. funny how an unfinished project nags at you even when you aren't thinking about it. i will somehow dig up the patience and try and try and try......again...WHEN i do get it done i will post a pic. can't say enough about this community...i'm glad to be a part of it.
  22. to the wonderful world of parenthood, where you get to pull off many all-nighters without the alcohol, and loud music..but will still include the puking and crying! a lot of the crying part will be sometimes the babe...sometimes you. you get to have your heart singing, crying, laughing all at the same time. a word of advice...watching my hubby go through it many times...if you have chest hair...make sure you cover up!!!! even if you think you are covered up....cover up again! enjoy your new small bundle of wonder and joy. do i smell new personalized babe mocs? flyingcuda
  23. good afternoon all...i love this place! all is not so good in canada either. i opened up a lingerie-adult-leather store in june..of course right before all this mess. i have 4 kids...22 -12-10-9...the oldest is out raising her own family. we have my in-laws living with us..with poor dad in-law having alzheimers. NOT easy! we are renting a store..paying 1400 a month..my hubby runs a computer repair and sales store in the other half of the store. we figured each side should be able to carry itself and provide sufficient income... ...boy were we wrong. perhaps in good times...yes..we just opened at the wrong time? i can't buy canadian because the cost is too high..why...because the workers feel they deserve 25 dollars an hour to run a high tech piece of equipment that they dont even have to touch unless they get thier own tie stuck in it. but yet we have other people working in more hazardous situations and being paid less. but as was said earlier...we put ourselves in these situations...for the most part...the bigger, newer house, the new car, the best of food and so on. what really bothers me is paying the high rate of insurance...here we have no choice..you drive you pay...all the money that is forked out by us month after month. we have been paying insurance for over 20 years an not a single accident or claim...(knocking real heavy on wood) what a waste of money! money i could be using to pay for stock for my store or field trips that my kids want to go on and so on. i really could go on and on. my husband and i decided to have 4 kids...my husband and i decided to have all 4 kids involved in sports..which is also very expensive my husband and i decided to take care of his parents...we decided to try to run our own business...sometimes good things come out of all these decisions..and sometimes bad....we just have to keep working at it and hoping that it will all be worth it in the end. we get to go to bed with the feeling of doing our best..wether it's working or not..we are doing our best, and not giving into the world that will always be there to knock you down. concentrate harder on the good that the world does have to offer..beautiful waters..incredible trees, aromatic flowers..a smile from a loved one..a nod from a stranger and so on. it also helps knowing that we are not fighting alone..there are others fighting the same or similar battles. take 5 mins out and truely enjoy the smell and the feel of a piece of leather in your hand....sorry..as i said..i could go on and on and apparently i did. look around..there is a lot to smile at. flyingcuda
  24. is there a different section where this can be discussed? actually i read your leatherwork specialty so i have my answer. that is basically the reason i started into the leatherwork. hubby thought it would be a good way to make money. we have tried a few pieces and i did a carving in a neck piece. i am terrified of using the swivel knive so i do it without for now.i know i can't get the awesome effect without it, but i have to wait till i am comfortable with it. i really enjoy working with leather and hope to get better before my wonderful family's genetic ailments hit me..such as arthritis i have opened a small store...lingerie, adult novelties and of course my leatherwork. it is great because i get to work on the leather on my slow days. i can't say enough how thrilled i am that i tripped onto this site! you guys are great, i'm sure i will get better with the help from all of you. i plan on doing my flogger within the next 2 days...i will put up the pic when i finish...good or bad. again..thanks so much!
