Members Shadowsbane Posted December 16, 2009 Members Report Posted December 16, 2009 Hello, I'm shadowsbane. I'm pretty new to this whole thing and realize that my projects lack a certain finished appeal, but I have just purchased a nice tool set to get started and that seems to have made a tremendous difference. Anyway here are a few samples in the order I did them. Feel free to slam them into the ground if need be. Hardened leather armor. Consisting of 14/16 oz leather that was hardened using the water method Squares measure roughly 2"x2" at bottom and 1.25"x1.25 inch at top. Laced together using waxed linen thread with rivet support at stress areas. This is also part of the armor, using once again 14/16 oz hardened leather that was stretched and shaped to my leg. Belt fasteners are chrome tanned. Purse holster I made for my wife. Sewing was done with a sewing awl being used to punch the holes. Boning and other shaping was accomplished with a pair of chopsticks from the local Chinese restaurant that I polished up. This is a knife sheath I made for my hunting knife. Leather is molded to the contours of the blade allowing for excellent retention. My current project is CCW belts that I am beta testing. Belts are hand sewn using waxed linen thread, while the holes are punched using a 4 prong chisel sized at 3/32s. Picture is shown half done to emphasize the stitching. Well those are the lion's share of what my experience is in leather crafting. King's X Posted December 16, 2009 Report Posted December 16, 2009 Nice Project ideas you have there. Welcome to the forum and if I may offer some advice. Try using a scratch awl and drawing a line whereas you can use your punch to follow and thereby getting a straight line. If you have a groover or the fund to invest in one, that would work much better. Also, if your project work for your ideas of use, then they are PERFECT! Good luck and learn a lot from the masters here. Happy Holidays! Quote Greetings from Central Texas! The Grain Side Up blog #TheGrainSideUp

Neat armour, the wearer looks very pleased so it turned out perfect I would say! :D Quote I am fifty years old and I have always lived in freedom; let me end my life free; when I am dead let this be said of me: 'He belonged to no school, to no institution, to no academy, least of all to any régime except the régime of liberty.'
