Ok I am going to kill 2 birds with on post on this. First off I see that alot of guys oil your projects before you dye them. What kind of oil do you use, Lexol, Fiebeings saddle soap???

And for the second question, for all of you saddle/tack makers out there what kind of finish do you use? To keep the saddles/gear waterproof and such? SuperSheen, or Tankote, Bagkote?

Thanks,

Chris

I use Sheps 100% Neatsfoot oil and Beilers 100% neatsfoot oil. I then use Weavers tuff coat. They sell it in black and clear.

How do you apply your oil, Ryan?

Hi Chris

I prefer to dye my back ground then oil. I find as the oil settles it takes the dye with it. I use Bee Natural Saddle Oil. It darkens gradually , but not as dark as neatsfoot oil.

Happy tooling

Tim

Tim,

How do you apply your oil? Is this a dip? paintbrush? rag? how do ya do it?

Is the Bee Natural oil thicker than neatsfoot? What is the difference? Or is it just easier to get? <grin!>
