wolvenstien Report post Posted January 11, 2010 I have just recently taught myself how to do a round braid, 4 strain without a core. I was wondering what you braiders use to finish it once it is done in order to seal/finish it. I hit my Tandy a few weeks back and they had 1/8" x 20yds of Tie-Dyed brights on sale for like a dollar a roll, so this is what I used and I actually like it once it is done. I made a neck thong for my hang around the neck knife. But the raw leather is rough against my skin.... Is there something I can use to smooth it and finish it, or should I try again with a smoother lace?

Sometimes if you roll the braid, it makes the strings lay nicer. It might help a little? Otherwise kangaroo lace makes real nice braids, especially if it's beveled right. Bevan Report post Posted January 11, 2010 (edited) all bullshit aside ,,, roo is as tuff as , and duable and as soft as a babies you know what , like Hilly said bevelle it and roll it , and it is as smooth as I all so grease my strings with a home made plaiters soap which helps them pull tight with ease and softens them at the same time ,,, win win Edited January 11, 2010 by Bevan

rawhide1 Report post Posted January 11, 2010 what do you mean be rolling it? Take and put the finished braided piece between to pieces of hard wood. Take and push the top board back and forth while putting a little pressure on the board. This should even your work out. You can also put it on the floor(as long as it's not carpet) and use your foot. Mike
